I'm a writer and have been using google docs as my go-to writing space, but just today I opened a new google doc and every time I "enter" and start a new line, the @ symbol appears and keeps flashing. As a writer, this is horribly distracting and annoying. Does anyone know how to turn it off? It wasn't doing this yesterday. I should also mention that I am using google docs in the google chrome web browser.
Thanks for sharing this feedback! We heard you and have rolled back the @ from populating automatically. You can still access it manually by typing “@” to link to people, files, and events, and add items to a Google Doc.
This is a new "feature" in Docs. You can read about it here: https://9to5google.com/2023/12/12/google-docs-button/. Please share your concerns about this directly with the Docs team by opening a Docs document and going to Help > Help Docs improve. The team is unable to respond to individual users, but they do review all feedback sent to them and use it to improve the app over time.

Not a problem. I totally understand (and, if truth be told, I detest this new feature, too). Thank you for letting me know my post for finding the feedback tool was helpful.
Thank you, Veggie Keeper, for your thoughtful reply and clear explanation of the problem. Like my friend Jo I also dislike this new feature and wish it could be turned off at least as an option. Sometimes it seems that the introduction of "exciting new features" risks losing one of the main advantages of Docs, namely its simplicity and functionality for the majority of tasks, Perhaps there should be some kind of "Advanced features" switch that you could toggle on and off.
