What do you mean by "to normal files"?

A Google Doc is a document. To save as a PDF or Word file to your device, you can go to File - Download and choose the format you want.

If you make a copy of a file, the copy will be created in your Google Drive. Go to drive.google.com to access it.

I have now accessed the doc in My Drive, thank you. But I need to save it into My Documents stored on my computer in order to easily access and forward it.
Please advise

You can open the file, then go to File - Download. Choose the format you want to download it as to save it to your device.

Other options:
1. File - Email allows you to email the file as an attachment
2. If you use the Share button you can set general access to anyone with the link and viewer. Then you can copy the link and email it to those that need access to view the live document.

Hi, Val Monaghan

I just wanted to add to this. As MsJenniferS mentioned the options that were given are what you can do.

The Google Docs file can only live in the Cloud, meaning it can only live in Google Drive. There is no way to save it to your local computer hard drive.

You only have the ability to download the file as a file other than a Google Docs file. You can select any of the options available on the Download menu. It works this way by design.

I hope this helps,
