Hello, is there a way to add my own format template like in word? And add a shortcut to it?

Greetings

Hi there,

Unfortunately, you can't create a custom template unless you have a paid Workspace business account.  However, there is a workaround. You can make a template by creating a new document and typing in what you want. Then give the document a title (for example, "Letter Template"), making sure to put the word Template at the end. Bookmark the page/document.

After the bookmark has been set up, edit the the bookmark's URL by doing the following:

  1. Delete /edit (make sure to include the slash) at the end of the URL.
  2. Replace it with /template/preview (again, make sure to include both of the slashes).
  3. Save the bookmark again.
  4. Refresh/reload the page and open the bookmark.
  5. You should now see a screen with a blue button on the right that reads: Use Template. Now, whenever you want to use the document, open the page and click Use Template.

Does that cover what you need or do you have further questions about this?

I think you got me wrong. Sorry. I described my issue to bad.

I am looking for a way to save a shortcut for formatting text. Like Command+1 sets the line where the cursor actually is to a certain format - like BOLD and TEXT INDENT and FONT SIZE and so on. In Word i can define that.

Greetings
You're right -- I did misunderstand your question. If you are trying to change the default font and line spacing in Docs and/or set styles for particular headings or paragraphs, etc., please follow the steps below. Note that although heading styles are generally used for headings, you can also use them for the purpose you outlined in your last message. Be sure not to skip Step #6, as that is the secret ingredient!

How to Adjust Default Font or Line Spacing in Google Docs
1. Create a new document or go into a current document with the formatting you want.
2. Drag your cursor through a couple of sentences that are set up the way you want them, with the font and line spacing you prefer.
3. Go to Format > Paragraph styles > Normal text.
4. Select "Update 'Normal text' to match."
5. Next, go to Format > Paragraph styles > Options.
6. Select "Save as my default styles."

How to Adjust Default Heading Styles
1. Create a new document or go into a current document with headings formatted the way you want.
2. Drag your cursor through a heading that has the font and line spacing you prefer.
3. Go to Format > Paragraph styles > Heading (1-6).
4. Select "Update Heading (1-6) to match."
5. Next, go to Format > Paragraph styles > Options.
6. Select "Save as my default styles."

Does that better address what you are trying to do?
