Loss of footnotes in google docs when pasting from MS Word

I pasted the contents of a word document into a google doc. The doc contained footnotes which are no longer functional. Is there a way to restore functionality?

Hi,

Try opening the .docx file in Docs. You can then convert it to Docs format by going to File > Save as Google Docs. The footnotes should work when you do that. They won't work with a copy/paste.
