Is there a way to lock backgrounds from moving in a Google Draw document?

I am wanting to lock a background from moving on my students as they are working.

Hello Mary and Welcome to the Google Docs Editor Help Community!

There isn't a method for locking the background of a Google Drawing.
However you may insert an image as a background in a Google Slide.

I wrote a guest post many years ago on Alice Keelers Blog. It might interest you to read it: Creating Math Manipulatives https://alicekeeler.com/2015/07/13/creating-math-manipulatives-using-gafe-by-msdrasby/

You could also edit a Google Slide Master for the same effect: https://alicekeeler.com/2016/06/18/google-slides-edit-slide-master/

Do share if you have further questions.

I love brainstorming education supports.

Agreed!  This could be a great tool to use with students if some stability could be added!

From a quick google search, this feature has been missing since at least 2013. So basic! Without it, it makes templating very difficult.,

Hi Frances Devoe,

You might consider using Google Slides to create the sorting mat.

Please see the following post I wrote on Alice Keelers blog back in 2015.

I'd be happy to help you with any  further questions.

I can't lock it down either, but you can put a clear box over top of the image. That way the clear box is moved, but not the image... It's not perfect, but it helps. A little. Seriously Google, fix this.

if you highlight everything and right click and select group you can make it all one object

Yes, this drives me crazy. Please make selecting and moving easier in general, it's way too easy to click the wrong thing, but locking a background into position so it cannot be selected by the mouse (and cannot be moved by the mouse) would surely be a huge help.

Educators working with Google Classroom have been asking for this feature (that has been sorely lacking) for years now. This one feature would be a game changer.

Come on Google... step up, this is a table stakes, low hanging fruit feature. Give us a Christmas present will ya?

You can add background colors directly to the art board by right-clicking on the art board and the color pallet will appear. There is no need to create a box, send it to the back and fill it in with a color. This will fix the problem.

As for the image background. I have a hack for this. Use a background color (see above), when you are done with the design simply replace with background image. It's not perfect but for sure Google needs to add a lock in position feature.

Hello everyone,

Just a reminder the best way to share your ideas directly to Google for feature requests is by submitting feedback via a Google Drawing..

Kindly follow the below steps to send feedback:
  1. Open the Google Drawing
  2. In tool bar click help
  3. Select Report a prolem
  4. Provide as much detail as possible
  5. Click Send
Best Regards,
Ms.  Drasby
