Google contact(labelled group) used to appeared in the google form when I send forms to. But, now it only shows individual contacts and labelled group does not appear. How can I fix this error?

I'm checking in on this but for now, I would suggest that you share a link to the form rather than emailing it directly from the form.

For instructions on how to do that, follow the steps in the "Get a link to a form" option on this help page then paste that link into a regular email that you can send to whoever you want to receive it.

Thank you for your suggestion. Yes- alternatively I can use Link function to send the forms. But it would be much convenient if I can send it directly with "Include forms in email" function.  I am now inputting emails individually to use this function by looking at the labelled group from the contact.

I am having this issue will all the Google apps, not just forms. I have noticed many issues since the Contacts changed from Gmail to own independent page.  I use the "group" function countless times each day. As an educator this feature is invaluable.

Thanks for the update! We have had multiple reports for Docs and Sheets in addition to Forms since this was first reported and have updated our comments to the design team so they are aware of it.

Unfortunately I haven't heard about any resolution yet but will let everyone know as soon as I have something to report.

For anyone who hasn't posted and finds this, please either post here or give this thread a "Me too!" so we can get a better idea of how widespread this is. Thank you!

"Email as an attachment" from Sheets to a large labeled group doesn't work. This is very frustrating and inconvenient. If the design team is aware of the problem, I'm wondering why it hasn't been fixed?

I have over 80 contacts in the group that I am trying to send the form to. I do not want to have to type in 80 emails to share a link. This is a huge inconvenience which I hope is resolved soon.

I used to be able to share my Google Drive folder with a distribution list I created in my Google Contacts, but cannot do that anymore. I worked fine one month ago. Please let me know what has changed in the past 30 days for this not to work anymore.

Me too, I have made a post in the Sheets forum about this and someone pointed me here. I send two spreadsheets every week to about 60 employees who then edit the spreadsheet. I rely on everyone doing so from their own account, not just anonymously through a link, so that I can track changes and who did what.

Sharing the document to the entire label group I already have in my contacts was convenient and necessary. Now I must spend extra time I do not have typing out each name.

I would also petition a change in this regard to maybe add a button to stop sharing a document altogether with one click (rather than just deleting the document). Right now it requires clicking the "x" on each person's name individually.

We are in the same boat as everyone here. Until this issue gets resolved, I've figured out a little solution, that might help some in the meantime. Hope this helps teams like us that share files with many people. Here is how:

  1. Go to https://contacts.google.com/
  2. Select the label you are trying to share your files with.
  3. Select all contacts and hit "Export"
  4. Choose either selected contacts or the list in question (for this tutorial I created "AAA," see image below)
  5. Export as "Google CSV" and open the file.
  6. Find the column with the emails and copy them.
  7. In a new spreadsheet, paste the emails into any column.
  8. Copy them again and paste them using the Paste Special > Paste Transposed.
  9. You should now be able to copy those emails sorted per column simply and paste them at once into the sharing field.

Hope for the programmers @Google to fix this asap. Good luck you all <3

Thanks for the suggestion, but this workaround basically means a dozen or so clicks for something that used to be one keystroke.  The new Google contacts has created a massive headache for me.  I am also an educator and work with groups (now called Labels?!) several dozen times a day.  Also, sharing a link does not work for me.  If I share a link, that means that students can forward the link to anyone else.  I want to be able to make sure that only those that been granted access get access.

Agree that moving CONTACTS out of gmail was not a good decision - does not work seamlessly.  I send minutes to several 'groups' and now I need to type all the addresses and look up just who was in each group?

BUT NOTE - any groups I created BEFORE the Contacts were moved out of Gmail are still show up...?

Hello everyone!

In addition to Karl's Suggestions.

Following is best practice method for organizations and businesses for setting up group email list. It is another timesaving method to accomplish what you are trying to do. Another extra bonus is it minimizes legit group email from going into SPAM folders.

Create a Google Group Email List.  Once the group email list is created you should be able to place the "Group Name" into a Google Forms or other doc file type or folders share settings. Using a Google Group Email List for file sharing purposes saves a ton of time when it comes to sharing files and folders.

Do share if you have further questions.

Best,
Ms. Drasby

I send various reports and communications to the members of a large committee several times a month. Before this problem cropped up, I usually used the "Email as attachment" selection under "File" for both Docs and Sheets. Committee member contacts were all grouped under the "Label" name of their committee.  That doesn't work anymore!!! Here's my workaround that doesn't require creating a Google Group w/email list as I saw in one suggestion or typing names of each individual recipient each time. The first step is only five clicks with no typing.
  1. Select "Share" the doc, sheet, form, etc.
  2. Get the shareable link.
  3. Select edit, comment, or view.
  4. Select "Copy Link." The link will be copied to the Clipboard.
  5. Click "Done" without typing any names in the "People" space.
Next,  go to Gmail account and Compose an outgoing email the same way as any other email using a labeled group with multiple recipients.  Type whatever message is necessary along with adding the link that had been copied to the clipboard. All of my committee members receive the link to the reports as well as a clickable image of the report.

Believe me, it took longer to type this comment than it does to perform the workaround.

Me, too. Can't get to a contacts group through "email as attachment".

I've noticed it also fails in the "inbox" email client, but works fine in the regular gmail client.

And it has nothing to do with making and syncing to a new contact group. The groups I'm using are old and have worked before.

Thanks everybody for the suggestions. But I (and others who have posted) already know there are workarounds to this problem. I posted to the Support forums in order to get the old functionality fixed, not to learn about workarounds. Forms should not be losing functionality without very, very good reason, and I dont see any very good reason here. So, any suggestions about fixing the problem, rather than working around it, are especially appreciated.

All best,
John

Same Issue with our domain

To correct :
You can send the email from the doc to yourself then in Gmail, use the group by transferring the email

Our office staff relies heavily on the "Email as attachment" option t.o send information to groups. This is a major issue as far as we are concerned. It should be simple to do the function, yet all the other "options" take longer with more steps than just being able to reference the groups.

It's not a "solution" exactly, but I created a new form with the exact same info as the old form and this new form allows me to select the contact groups to send to.

Hopefully this can help someone temporarily while we wait for a patch.

Hi all,

Thanks for your feedback and patience. Below is the most recent communication on this issue:

Summary
You created Labels in Google Contacts and you are not able to share content to these Labels.

What products are affected?
Sharing in any Google Docs Editor (Google Docs, Google Sheets, Google Slides, Google Forms)
Google Calendar
Google Groups
*Note: Contact Labels still work in Gmail

Will this be fixed?
Yes, we are actively working to resolve this issue and make Labels available in the products listed above.

Are there workaround options available in the meantime?
Yes, there are two workarounds available that involve using Gmail.

---------
Option 1: Create a link and share the link using Gmail
  • In the product from which you want to share or invite people, create a shareable link in Drive or through your Google Docs, Forms, Sheets, Slides file. Below is an example of creating a link in Forms:

  • Copy the link
  • Go to Gmail on the web, and compose an email
  • In the ‘To’ bar, search for the Label you would like to share with (if you do not see the label, try refreshing your window)
  • Select the Label and this will add the individual emails in the ‘To’ bar

--------
Option 2: Copy the list of emails in a Label using Gmail
  1. Go to Gmail on a Desktop, and compose an email:

  • Look up the Contact Label (if you do not see the label, try refreshing your window)

  • Select the Label and this will add the individual emails in the ‘To’ bar

  • Copy the email addresses from the ‘To’ bar. To Copy, place your cursor anywhere in the ‘To’ bar and press ⌘ + A on a Mac or Ctrl + A on Windows followed by ⌘ + C on a Mac or Ctrl + C on Windows.
  • Paste the email addresses in the document you want to share. To paste the email addresses, place your cursor where you would look up the Label and press ⌘ + V on a Mac or Ctrl + V on Windows.
