Bullets AND checkboxes -- in the same doc?!?

Hey all - is there a way to format a GDoc so that one section can use bullets, and another section can use checkboxes?

I have a "meeting minutes" document with an "action item" section. I'd like to use bullets for the "minutes" portion, and checkboxes for the "action item" portion.

Thanks!

Hi, Dave,

Yes, you absolutely can use checkboxes and bullets in the same document. You will just have to make sure that if you have one long list that you separate the list into two parts (divided by at least a blank line space), as otherwise all the bullets or checkboxes will change.

What problem are you experiencing when you try to do this?

Hi Jo, thanks for the quick reply!

It seems to happen when I copy & paste notes from another application into GDocs and attempt to convert some of a bullet list to checkboxes. There are a few line breaks, but they are all treated as a single set of bullets/checkboxes -- when attempting to change one, it changes them all.

I've just tried creating a new list from scratch in a new GDoc, and am able to create separate bulleted + checkbox lists.

Here's a GDoc that demonstrates both types, and includes an example of the issue:

Hi, Dave,

As the link is set to view only, I'm not able to access the document directly to test out anything. However, I can see at first glance that the bullets from the imported list are much bigger than those created in Docs. I think the best way to import a list would be to paste it using Ctrl + Shift + V so that it pastes without formatting. That way, you'll have the content you need but you can then apply the list features you want using the options in Docs.

Would that work for you?

That worked great, thanks Jo!
Awesome! You're very welcome, Dave. I'm so glad to know the workaround I suggested will do the trick for you.

Have a great rest of the week!
