How to make images uploaded to a sheet from a form show as images and not text

Hello I am trying to use google forms to ask a user to post a picture of their car, their name, other info, and a brief bio. Then I will send it into a sheet to later be used to "Vote" on which image looks best as well as to have all the information I need compiled and convinient.

Right now, forms will send the image files to a seperate folder then it will put a link to that image in a box in sheets.

For the life of me I can't figure out how to make those images display an actual picture, not a link in the individual display boxes. This is my 1st goal.

My second goal would be to create a way to automize the above function. Whereas after say all 100 people have submitted files I could highlight say column "C" and force all of the URLs to display their image in each box individually.

I am an Excel or sheets noob so I need help thanks!

first time using this feature
heres steps i would take

on form open image folder

make that folder shareable  - "get shareable link"
no need copy it

next go to responses sheet
it show me this

on a new sheet i did this

=Image("http://drive.google.com/uc?export=view&id="&mid('Form responses 1'!C2,34,33),2)

that formula can be made into array - if needs

I have the same conundrum, & have scoured forums and help files but no avail.
The form only posts a link when I export to Sheets, & I want the image to show rather in a custom size.
I'm happy to insert a new column to insert the formula to show the image from the URL, & this may be the best way to duplicate the instruction.
I have tried to put that link in an image formula =IMAGE("<URL>", 4, 4, 4) as well as =IMAGE(<Cell Reference of URL>, 4, 4, 4), as well as the suggestion above, but nothing is working.

are you trying to do this on the responses sheet - or a new sheet within that spreadsheet?

Mchall,

I studied your formula and understand it--extracting the "id=" information from the url for the uploaded photo and using it to complete the url.  I tested the theoretical formula url result by pasting it into a new tab and it showed the photo.  However, the formula itself is producing a blank--no error, just blank.  Any idea why I would get a blank but not an image?

Here's the theoretical result of the formula:

Could this be related to permissions?

Thanks,

Scott

Good evening! I am creating a Google Form where one of the responses is a photo submission. When I view the sheet, it has the URL in the cell. I would like for the images to auto-populate in the Google Sheet. Is that possible? If so, I would greatly appreciate your help.

Goog afternoon,

Every time I try to apply the formula, I am ending with a blank cell, no error, but no image to show.

Would you see something that might explain it?

Try Using a different Direct Link.

When I used the Image function and it did not work,
=image("https://drive.google.com/open?id=filename",1)

I then used the following direct link:
https://drive.google.com/uc?id=

The Formula used is the image function:
=image("https://drive.google.com/uc?id=filename",1)

The file name that I used was part of the Link to Share that you get from Google Photos
You will get something like this:

https://drive.google.com/file/d/1IUKkUsYF9Ml4AyYcofms3GVAKyoXVqtM/view?usp=sharing

The file name you need is the part after d/ and before /view:   1IUKkUsYF9Ml4AyYcofms3GVAKyoXVqtM

In this case the Formula would be:
