Btw, I have a theory on the problem and the solution.

The problem started when I moved a PDF file from downloads to my GDrive. I clicked open and suddenly, my computer restarted on its own a few times. This is when the problem began.

What worked for me was the following steps:
1. disable first the offline feature in google drive (website)
2. go to settings, click restore settings to original defaults
3. go to settings again, search for cookies and disable the block third party cookies (you need to do this or else your offline feature in google drive will not work or it will have an error message)
4. restart computer
5. enable offline feature in google drive
6. go offline and test it.
7. restart again
8. try to open docs offline

Hi, John,

Does the error message show that offline sync is already enable for another account?

Is this a Chromebook that you own or did you buy it used?

Is the Chromebook a managed device (such as through a school or place of work)?

Is your account associated with a school or business?

Please provide more information so we can try to help.

Hey Jo,

My Google drive says that I am offline while connected to the Internet. My backups are stored on it, but I cannot access it. My settings are also disabled. As well as the support buttons and also the offline button. How can I put it back online so that I can handle my backups? Through my cell phone I can in my google drive ....
Because your questions are related more to Google Drive than Docs, I suggest posting about this in the Google Drive help community instead:

One of the product experts there should be able to provide further assistance.

I suggest you to post something Google Drive help community instead:

There are dozens of same complaints in google drive community and ZERO assistance or communication. I need this issue fixed now to get clinet deadlines out the door.  This could cost me tens of thousands and my business. Google product experts such as  Jo S.- how do we get a phone call from a real person ASAP????
Shannon, the help communities are managed by volunteer product users (even the product experts are volunteers), not Google employees. In the Docs community, we can offer assistance with troubleshooting and how-to questions, but we have no control over general issues/complaints, particularly ones that are unrelated to Docs, that are account-specific, or that deal with problems related to Google Drive. We also are unable to contact individual users by phone, email, text, or in any other way outside of the help community.

Please look at the solutions that were already posted in this thread. If those don't resolve it for you and you have a business G Suite account, you may be able to contact Google Support directly or reach out to your account administrator who can do that for you for one-on-one assistance.

If you don't have a G Suite account, then I suggest that you post about this issue in Drive help community. As you noted, there are other threads about this issue there, and as this is Drive-related (not specifically Docs-related), that would be the best community in which to post about this. Here is direct line for your convenience:
