Hello,

As Mchall stated, this cannot be changed. It is inherent in all Google docs.

The only workaround would be to enable offline editing, then intentionally disconnect your internet connection. To be clear, I do NOT recommended this method.

best regards,

I'm really not sure why you would want to do this - Gdocs is designed to be used online and saved automatically - and keep a log of all changes so you can easily revert (see File-Version history).
I believe you can force a change with Ctrl-S but it's a bit redundant.

Hello,

Unlike Excel which is a program you install on your computer's hard drive and you "Save" and "Load" files on your hard drive Google Sheets is an "online" program where files are "saved" to the cloud so you can access them from any device and anywhere with your Google account that you use to create the files.

You can "download" your Google Sheet as an Excel file and then use it in Excel and have the option to "Save" as you edit the file. Trouble with this is some features and/or formula FUNCTIONS that may work in one program will not work in the other.

For my case, I think turning off syncing is necessary because when the process is processing, it freezes and blocks typing. I haven't experienced this behavior before.

In my opinion, the automatic saving feature is VERY annoying precisely because it freezes and blocks typing.  It makes writing a document take forever.  I wish I could save at my own choosing.

Was using Internet Explorer. Discovered Google Docs runs much smoother on Chrome. It's not causing saving delays as I was experiencing before.

I made a sheet that takes a whole bunch of columns and combines them then I can copy that column into a word document and everything is formatted correctly because it saves, my coworkers mess up the spreadsheet whenever they use it. I know I could go back to version history and start from the first one, but anyone have an idiot proof idea? The reason we use Google docs is because my computer has all the files and our network does not allow us to share files. So I created a google docs so we can all see the files we need from each their own computer instead of everyone using them on my computer. Yes I realize this is a screwed up way to do everything but I can't change that I can only work around things.
