Cannot edit existing Docs comments, to assign them -- no "Assign" checkbox appears.
1
I would like to edit existing comments in a doc, and assign them.  However, when I click `Edit`, and mention a person with `@` or `+`, the "Assign" checkbox does not appear.

On new comments, the "Assign" checkbox does appear after a mention.  So, the ability to assign a comment (action item) to a person is available as a feature in this doc.

This seems like a bug.

Hi, Richard,

I just tested this out and am not experiencing that issue. Are these comments you created or did someone else create them? If you just click on "reply" (not "edit") are you able to assign them?

Hi Jo, thanks for your quick response!

I created these comments.

What do you mean by "click on 'reply'"?  There is no button labelled "Reply".

If I click the triple-dot menu, the choices are "Edit", "Delete", "Link to this comment".

If I click in the reply text area (containing placeholder: "Reply or add others with @").  If I type here, I can post a reply (of course, after input there is a "Reply" button to submit).  But if I mention my own name (+ or @), there is still no "Assign" checkbox.

Hi, Richard,

The "reply" box below the comment is what I was referring to.

The triple-dot menu normally only has "Edit," "Delete," and "Link to this comment" as options.

If you mention other people in the "Reply" area using + or @, does it work properly?

I'm not sure what you mean by an "Assign" checkbox. Do you have a screen shot you could share here? (Use the paper clip icon to the right of the blue Post button in a reply message to upload your screen shot to your message.)

Sure.  Attached are four screenshots.

In #1, and #2, I have just now created a new comment, and when I mention myself `@rmichael...`, the "Assign to you" checkbox appears (#1).  If I check it, the "Save" button is renamed to "Assign", the comment is converted to a task, and has a different appearance in the sidebar (#2).

In #3, I am editing an old comment, and mentioning myself `@rmichael...`, trying to cause the "Assign to you" box to appear, so that I can convert the comment to a task.
