Google docs didn't save my work
0
I wrote an essay in google docs for English yesterday and have come back to it today to find that most of my work isn't there anymore. I've been into the version history and it appears that it stopped saving after some point, as the last time that it says I edited it yesterday is not when I actually finished editing it. I'm also super confused because I did not have offline sync on, and I'm pretty sure that my internet connection was stable as I had no trouble editing it at the time. Any help on this issue and how to possibly restore it would be appreciated, as I really don't want to have to write it all again!

on your computer, go to Files; Google Drive; My Drive and scroll down to your doc and try that if that doesn't work then try this;
recover a file from the trash
If there’s a file in your trash you want to keep, put it back in "My Drive." If you’re not the owner of the file and want to use it:
  • Make a copy of the file.
  • Contact the owner to have them restore it.
Drive File Stream
If you're not the owner of the file, contact the owner to have them restore it.
Tip: If you have important information in a file, you can make a copy of it. Open the file and click File  Make a copy.
If you can't recover your deleted file
If you delete a file and need to get it back, contact a Drive specialist. To find your file, call or chat with us.
Contact a Drive specialist
  1. In a browser, like Chrome, go to the Google Drive Help Center.
  2. At the bottom, click Contact us.
  3. Enter your issue to get support.

Hi, Lucy,

It's possible that your internet experienced a brief glitch in the background that interrupted the save feature for Docs. The only way to restore an earlier version of your document is via version history (Google Drive support can't assist you with doing that). Please make sure you're looking at all the details in version history:

How to Restore a Prior Version of a Google Docs Document
  1. Go to File > Version history > See version history.
  2. Make sure that "Show changes" at the bottom is checked (if you need to view the revisions).
  3. Click on the arrows to the left of the dates for more detailed versions.
  4. Click on the time and dates of the prior versions to locate and see the one you want.
  5. When you find the version you want, click on "Restore this version."
  6. Close the Version History dialogue box by clicking the arrow at the top left of the page.
Are you able to find it now? Unfortunately, if you aren't, there isn't any other way to recover your work.

Hi, Celia,

Version history is only available in the desktop (computer) version of Docs, not the mobile app.
