How do I have my document NOT completely chew up my equations when printing or saving as PDF?

Windows 7, Chrome (Latest)

Describe the steps you took that produced this error: wrote document, including various equations using the editor.
Copy and paste any error messages:

No error messages, just a garbled mess when printing the document or saving as PDF. Spacing of the equations goes horribly awry, and neither the print preview nor the PDF seems to be able to render characters like 'pi' or anything in set notation. It seems this question has been asked a few times before at least the past year, but apparently NOTHING has been done about it.
Anyone (ehem, Google) have any solutions to this problem?
