Filter charts and tables with Slicers

If you create a custom dashboard, you can add a slicer to filter your tables, charts, or pivot tables.

Add a slicer

  1. On your computer, open a spreadsheet at sheets.google.com.
  2. Click the chart or pivot table you want to filter.
  3. At the top, click Data and then Slicer.
  4. At the right, choose a column to filter by.
  5. Click the slicer and choose your filter rules:
    • Filter by condition: Choose from a list of conditions or create your own.
    • Filter by values: Uncheck any data points that you want to hide.

Notes:

  • You can use one slicer per column. To filter by more than one column, add multiple slicers.
  • Slicers apply to all charts and pivot tables in a sheet that use the same data set.
  • If you add multiple slicers that use the same source data, make sure the range of each slicer is the same as the others.
  • A slicer’s filter selections remain private and unsaved unless you set them as default.

Filters, filter views & slicers

Filters:

  • Visibility: Visible to everyone who can access the spreadsheet. Filters remain in place until they're removed or changed.
  • Reuse: Can’t be stored as templates for reuse.
  • Permissions: Anyone who can view the spreadsheet will see an applied filter, but you can’t apply or change a filter without edit access.

Filter views:

  • Visibility: If you apply a filter view, only you can see it.
  • Reuse: You can save multiple filter views. Anyone with access to the spreadsheet can see and apply saved filter views.
  • Permissions: You need edit access to save filter views, but if you have view access, you can create temporary filter views.

Slicers:

  • Visibility: Anyone with access to the spreadsheet can see and adjust filters on a slicer. When you apply a filter on a slicer, changes are only visible to you, unless you set them as default.
  • Reuse: Filters applied on a slicer can’t be saved for reuse, unless you set them as default. When you set filter selections as default, they'll be applied for everyone that has access to the spreadsheet.
  • Permissions: Everyone with access to the spreadsheet can see slicers, but you need edit access to add or remove a new slicer.
