Edit a chart

You can customize your chart to an audience by changing options, like chart type, data range, or color.

Customize your chart

  1. On your computer, open a spreadsheet at sheets.google.com.
  2. Double-click the chart you want to edit.
  3. In the side panel, select a tab:
    • Data: Choose your chart type and data range.
    • Customize: Change the axes, series, and how your chart looks.
Switch rows and columns in a chart

Your data will automatically be displayed horizontally and vertically on the chart. You can change how your row and column data shows on the horizontal and vertical axes.

  1. On your computer, open a spreadsheet at sheets.google.com.
  2. Double-click the chart you want to edit.
  3. In the side panel, click Data.
  4. Check the box next to "Switch rows / columns" to switch the order of the data.

  1. On your computer, open a spreadsheet at sheets.google.com.
  2. Double-click the chart you want to edit.
  3. In the side panel, click Data.
  4. Check the box next to "Include hidden / filtered data."
Add & edit data labels

You can add labels to your data and change where they show in the chart.

  1. On your computer, open a spreadsheet in Google Sheets.
  2. Double-click the chart you want to change.
  3. At the right, click Customize and then Series.
  4. Next to "Apply to," choose the data series you want to label.
  5. Click Data labels.
  6. Optional: 
    • Under "Position," choose where you want the data labels to show.
    • Under "Data labels," make changes to the label font, size, format, or color.
Add total data labels to a stacked chart

You can add a label that shows the sum of the "stacked" data in a chart. Total data labels can be added to:

  • Bar, column, or area charts.
  • Combo charts that have bars or areas.
  1. On your computer, open a spreadsheet in Google Sheets.
  2. Double-click the chart you want to change.
  3. At the right, click Customize and then Series.
  4. Next to "Apply to," choose "All series."
  5. Click Data labels.
  6. Optional: Under "Total data labels," make changes to the label font, size, format, or color.
