Edit rows, columns & cells in a spreadsheet
You can add, delete, group, freeze, move, or hide rows and columns in a spreadsheet in Google Sheets.
Add rows or columns
- On your Android phone or tablet, open a spreadsheet in the Google Sheets app.
- Select a row or column.
- Tap Insert
.
- From the menu that appears, choose an option.
Change or move rows or columns
Change row height or column width
- On your Android phone or tablet, open a spreadsheet in the Google Sheets app.
- Touch and hold the row or column you want to resize.
- In the menu that appears, tap Resize row or Resize column.
- Enter the row height or column width.
- Tap Save.
You can also tap a row or column and drag the edges.
Freeze or unfreeze rows or columns
Keep some data in the same place and still see it when you scroll.
- On your Android phone or tablet, open a spreadsheet in the Google Sheets app.
- Touch and hold a row or column.
- In the menu that appears, tap Freeze or Unfreeze.
Move rows or columns
- On your Android phone or tablet, open a spreadsheet in the Google Sheets app.
- Select the row number or column letter to move.
- Drag the row or column to a new place.
Combine rows, columns, or cells
- On your Android phone or tablet, open a spreadsheet in the Google Sheets app.
- Touch and hold the rows or columns to merge.
- In the menu that appears, tap Merge
.
Delete, group, or hide rows or columns
Delete rows or columns
- On your Android phone or tablet, open a spreadsheet in the Google Sheets app.
- Touch and hold the row or column you want to delete.
- In the menu that appears, tap Delete.
Group or ungroup rows or columns
- On your Android phone or tablet, open a spreadsheet in the Google Sheets app.
- Highlight the rows or columns you want to group or ungroup.
- Touch and hold the highlighted rows or columns.
- Tap More
and then tap Group or Ungroup.
To expand or collapse grouped rows or columns, tap the Plus (+) or Minus (-) sign. Note: If there is a group within a group, you will need to tap the Double arrows » first.
Hide rows or columns
- On your Android phone or tablet, open a spreadsheet in the Google Sheets app.
- Touch and hold a row or column.
- In the menu that appears, tap Hide Row or Hide column.
