Import a theme or slides from another presentation

Import a theme from another presentation

When you create or modify a presentation in Google Slides, you can reuse a theme by importing it from an existing presentation.

  1. Create a new presentation. If you are modifying an existing presentation, choose Change theme... from the Slide menu in the toolbar.
  2. When the theme window appears, click Import theme in the bottom left corner of the menu.

  3. Choose a presentation that's already saved in Drive or choose a presentation to upload from your computer. Click Select.
  4. Choose a theme and click Import to apply the theme to your current presentation.

If you receive an error message while importing your theme into Google Slides, it could be for one of the following reasons:

  • The file is over the maximum import size of 50MB.
  • The file isn't one of Google Slides’ supported file types. Google Slides supports imports in .ppt (if newer than Microsoft Office 95), .pptm, .pptx, .pot, .potm, .potx, .pps, .ppsm, .ppsx, and .odp format, as well as Google Slides format.

Import slides from another presentation

To easily reuse slides from an existing presentation, you can import slides.

  1. Open a presentation.
  2. Go to the File menu and select Import slides.
  3. Here, select a presentation that's already saved in Google Slides or choose a presentation to upload from your computer. Click Select.
  4. Choose which slides in the presentation you’d like to import. Use the Select Slides: All option to quickly select all slides, or manually select slides that you’d like to import.
  5. Leave the box next to "Keep original theme" checked if you'd like to import your slides unmodified. Uncheck the box if you'd like the slides to fit into the look of your new presentation.
  6. Click Import to finish.
