Share and collaborate on Android

This information only applies to the latest version of the Drive, Docs, Sheets, and Slides app. Download the latest version:

You can share files from the Google Drive, Docs, Sheets, and Slides apps. You can also work on files at the same time as others using the Docs, Sheets, and Slides apps.

Share a file

To share a file:

Google Drive app
  1. Open the Drive app.
  2. Next to the file name, touch the info icon Activity Information.
  3. Touch Add people.
  4. Enter an email address and give the person permission to view, comment, or edit the file.
  5. In the top right, touch the arrow.
Google Docs, Sheets, or Slides app
  1. Open the Docs, Sheets, or Slides app.
  2. Next to the file name, touch the menu icon .
  3. Touch Share & export.
  4. Touch the sharing icon .
  5. Enter an email address and give the person permission to view, comment, or edit the file.
  6. Touch Share.

Share a link to a file

Share a file by sending a link by email or chat. To share a link to a file:

Google Drive app
  1. Open the Drive app.
  2. Next to the file name, touch the info icon Activity Information.
  3. Touch Share link.
  4. Select Copy to clipboard.
  5. The link has been copied to your clipboard. Paste it into an email or chat.
Google Docs, Sheets, or Slides app
  1. Open the Docs, Sheets, or Slides app.
  2. Next to the file name, touch the menu icon .
  3. Touch Share & export.
  4. Touch the sharing icon .
  5. Touch Get link. Anyone with the link can see your file (even if you haven’t shared the link with them directly).
  6. Paste the link into an email or chat.

Real-time collaboration

You can work on Google Docs, Sheets, and Slides at the same time as someone else. Anyone viewing the file can see edits made in real time from any device. For example, changes you make in the app on your Android will show up for others looking at the file on their desktop.

See a history of activity (Google Drive app)

To see the activity that has taken place in a file or folder, like who moved a file and what folder they moved it to, you can track activity using the Drive app.

Google Drive app
  1. Open the Drive app.
  2. Next to the file name, touch the info icon Activity Information.
  3. Scroll to the “Activity” section. The activity that appears at the top is the most recent.
  4. To see more activity than is currently showing, touch View more activity.
