Create a Sheets canvas

Feature availability

Canvas may not be available if:

  • You’re using the Sheets app on your mobile device.
  • The data size of the tab is too large. Try reducing the amount of data on that tab.
  • The ability to download, copy, and/or print is disabled in Sheets.
  • You’re using a file stored in third-party storage or offline documents. You can only use canvas for files stored in Google Drive.

To convert spreadsheet data into interactive visual layouts in Google Sheets, use canvas with Gemini. This will build custom interfaces to manage and update information. Examples include:

  • Dashboards
  • Heat maps
  • Kanban boards
  • Custom, interactive visualizations

  4. Optional: To make changes to your data after the canvas is generated, enter another prompt.
    • Example: "Convert this dashboard into dark mode."

Tips:

  • Canvases only use data from a single Sheet tab.
  • To find the underlying data on a canvas, click View data.
  • To find existing canvases, use the bottom bar menu.

Manage your data in canvas

  1. To change the name of your canvas, click the toolbar.
  2. Enter a new name.
  3. To save changes, click outside the toolbar.
    • Or, you can press Enter.
  4. To manage your spreadsheet data, you can add, edit, or delete data directly in the canvas interface.
  5. To remove the canvas, in the top toolbar, click Delete canvas Delete .
    • If you don’t want to delete the canvas, you can keep it for future use.
  6. To find the underlying data, click View data.
  7. To exit the canvas, click any other tab in the spreadsheet.
