Organise information in a document or presentation with a table. You can add and delete tables, and adjust the size and style of table rows and columns.
If you're using Google Docs on a computer, you can also:
- Sort rows
- Drag and move rows and columns
- Pin table header rows so they repeat at the top of each page
- Prevent information from overflowing across pages
Add a table
- On your iPhone or iPad, open the Google Docs app or Google Slides app.
- Open a document or presentation.
- Tap where you'd like to add a table.
- At the top right, tap Add .
- Tap Table .
- Choose the number of rows and columns that you want in your table.
- Tap Insert table.
Add rows or columns
Google Docs
- On your iPhone or iPad, open the Google Docs app.
- Open a document.
- Tap any cell in a table.
- Tap Format .
- Under 'Table', tap one of the following:
- Column to the left
- Column to the right
- Row above
- Row below
Google Slides
- On your iPhone or iPad, open the Google Slides app.
- Open a presentation.
- Tap a table.
- Tap the grey bar next to the row or column.
- Tap one of the following:
- Insert column to the left
- Insert column to the right
- Insert row above
- Insert row below
If you don’t see these options, you may have to tap the right arrow in the menu.
Delete rows, columns or table
Google Docs
- On your iPhone or iPad, open the Google Docs app.
- Open a document.
- Tap a table.
- Tap the grey bar next to the row or column that you want to delete.
- Tap Delete column, Delete row or Delete table.
If you don’t see these options, you may have to tap the right arrow in the menu.
Google Slides
- On your iPhone or iPad, open the Google Slides app.
- Open a presentation.
- Tap a table.
- Tap the grey bar next to the row or column that you want to delete.
- Tap Delete.
- To delete the table, tap the table tap Delete.
If you don’t see these options, you may have to tap the right arrow in the menu.
Merge cells in a table
Google Docs
- On your iPhone or iPad, open the Google Docs app.
- Open a document.
- Tap a table.
- Tap the grey bar next to the row or column that you want to merge.
- To merge a combination of rows and columns, tap and drag the blue dot at the corner.
- Tap Format Table.
- At the bottom, turn on Merge cells.
Note: To unmerge cells, turn off Merge cells.
Google Slides
- On your iPhone or iPad, open the Google Slides app.
- Open the presentation.
- Highlight the cells that you want to merge.
- Tap Merge cells.
If you don’t see these options, you may have to tap the right arrow in the menu.

Resize rows and columns
Google Docs
- On your iPhone or iPad, open the Google Docs app.
- Open the document.
- Tap the existing table.
- Tap the cell in the row or column that you want to change.
- Tap Format tap Table.
- To change the row and column size, tap the up or down arrows next to 'Minimum row height' and 'Column width'.
Google Slides
- On your iPhone or iPad, open the Google Slides app.
- Open a presentation.
- Tap the existing table.
- Tap the row header or column header that you want to change.
- To resize the row or column, touch and drag the lines at the edge of the row or column header.
Resize a table
Google Docs
- On your iPhone or iPad, open the Google Docs app.
- Open the document.
- Tap the existing table.
- At the top left of the table, tap the square.
- Around the edge of the table, touch and drag the grey bars.
Google Slides
- On your iPhone or iPad, open the Google Slides app.
- Open a presentation.
- Tap the table that you want to resize.
- Around the edge of the table, touch and drag the blue squares.
Style individual cells in a table
- On your iPhone or iPad, open the Google Docs app or Google Slides app.
- Open a document or presentation.
- Tap the cells that you want to change.
- Tap Format tap Table.
- Tap the style that you want to change:
- Fill colour
- Border colour
- Border width or Border weight
- Border dash
