Customize a slide with layouts and themes

To adjust how your presentation looks in Google Slides, you can change the theme, the layout, or the background image.

On the web

Add a theme

  1. Open a presentation in Google Slides.
  2. On the top menu, click Slide > Change theme.
  3. Click the theme you want to use. It will be applied to all slides in your presentation.

Change the layout of a slide

  1. Open a presentation and select a slide.
  2. At the top, click Layout.
  3. Choose the layout you want to use.

Add a background image

  1. Open a presentation and select a slide.
  2. Click Slide > Change background.
  3. You can apply a background image to the theme for all the slides in your presentation, or you can add a background color.
  4. To select an image, next to "Image," click Choose.
  5. Find or upload an image.
  6. Click Select.
  7. Click Done.
On Android

Add a theme

  1. Open a presentation.
  2. Tap More More icon.
  3. Tap Change theme.
  4. To apply a theme to all slides in your presentation, tap a theme.

Change the layout of a slide

  1. Open a presentation and select a slide.
  2. In the slide picker, tap the slide you want to change.
  3. In the menu that appears, tap Change layout.
  4. Choose the layout you want to use.

Add a background image

This feature is not available on the Google Slides app.

On iPhone and iPad

Add a theme

  1. Open a presentation.
  2. Tap More More icon.
  3. Tap Change theme.
  4. To apply a theme to all slides in your presentation, tap a theme.

Change the layout of a slide

  1. Open a presentation and select a slide.
  2. In the slide picker, tap the slide you want to change.
  3. In the menu that appears, tap Change layout.
  4. Choose the layout you want to use.

Add a background image

This feature is not available on the Google Slides app.
