Edit image backgrounds in Google Slides & Vids (Workspace Labs)

Important: This article refers to Google Workspace Labs, which is a trusted tester program for users to try new AI features. To check if you have access to Workspace Labs features, open a presentation on Google Slides and look for Generate an image in the toolbar at the top. Learn where you can use Workspace Labs features.

You can edit any image background with AI in:

• Google Slides
• Google Vids

Replace an image background

1. On your computer, open Google Vids or Google Slides.
2. Click an image.
3. Click Edit image Replace background.
4. On the right, in the panel, enter a prompt. For example:
   • “A vibrant sunset in the midst of a cozy suburban neighborhood with two-story houses”
   • “A coffee shop setting, with plants, tables with laptops, and cups of coffees”
   • “A park setting with green lush lawns, and different types of trees in the background”
   • “Modern, simple living room, with a TV stand made out of wood, and a large TV”
5. To preview, click the image.
   • To preview other generated images, next to “Previewing,” click Previous or Next .
6. To add the image to the slide or canvas, click Replace with image.
   • For more options, click View more.

Expand an image background

1. On your computer, open Google Vids or Google Slides.
2. Click an image.
3. Click Edit image Expand.
4. Select the type of image ratio that you want:
   • Wide
   • Tall
   • Square
5. To preview, click the image.
   • To preview other generated images, next to “Previewing,” click Previous or Next .
6. To add the image to the slide or canvas, click Replace with image.
   • For more options, click View more.

Remove an image background

1. On your computer, open Google Vids or Google Slides.
2. Click an image.
3. Click Edit image Remove background.
