Create a file from a template

You can use Google-created templates like resumes, budgets, and order forms.

Some template features are only available for work or school accounts, and you’re not currently signed in. To sign in to your work or school account, click here.

Use a Google template

  1. On your computer, go to Google Docs, Sheets, Slides, or Forms.
  2. At the top right , click Template Gallery.
  3. Click the template you want to use.
  4. A copy of the template will open.

Use a work or school template

If you use a Google Account through work or school, you may have templates just for your organization.

  1. On your computer, go to Google Docs, Sheets, Slides, or Forms.
  2. At the top right , click Template Gallery.
  3. Choose between "General" or "Your organization."
  4. Click the template you want to use.
  5. A copy of the template will open.

Note: If the template you choose has "Add-on" next to it, you may have to install an add-on to use it. Learn more about add-ons.

  1. On your computer, go to Google Docs, Sheets, Slides, or Forms.
  2. At the top right , click Template Gallery.
  3. Click the template you want to use.
  4. A copy of the template will open.

Create your own template

To create your own template, you need to use a Google Account from your work or school.

If you don’t see the option to submit a template, you may be using a personal account or your organization may not let you.

Submit your template

  1. On your computer, go to Google Docs, Sheets, Slides, or Forms.
  2. At the top, click Template gallery.
  3. Click Submit template.
  4. Select the file you want to use.
    • To submit a copy, click Submit a copy of this file instead of the original.
    • If you submit the original file, any changes you make to it will show in the template gallery.
  5. Click the file you want to add, then click Open.
  6. Choose a category, then click Submit.

After you submit a template

  • Your school or work might have to approve your template.
  • If it’s approved, anyone in your organization will be able to find, view, and use the file as a template.
Create a template with an add-on

You can submit templates with add-ons to your work or school template gallery.

  1. On your computer, go to Google Docs, Sheets, Slides, or Forms.
  2. At the top left, enter a title for the file.
  3. Use the add-on you want included in the template.
  4. Now that your file is ready, learn how to submit your template.

Remove a template from the gallery

You can take templates you have edit access to out of the gallery.

  1. On your computer, go to Google Docs, Sheets, Slides, or Forms.
  2. Click Template gallery.
  3. On the template you want to remove, click More More.
  4. Click Remove from gallery.

Restore a template you removed

To restore a file to the template gallery:

  • Re-add the template.
  • Share the file with everyone at your work or school again.
  • Take it out of the trash.

Follow Google’s content policies when using the template gallery.

Show or hide templates

  1. Open the open a Google Docs, Sheets, Slides, or Forms home screen.
  2. At the top left, click Menu Menu and then Settings.
  3. Turn Display recent templates on home screens On or Off.
