Create display creatives using the app install template
Quickly make a mobile display creative from your Android or iOS app store assets using the app install creative template. The template can make up to 3 creatives: a 320x50 banner, an interstitial, and an interstitial with video.
| Example banner | Example interstitial | Example interstitial with video |
The creative template includes:
| Asset | Source |
|---|---|
| App icon | App store |
| App name | App store |
| App screenshots | App store |
| YouTube video (optional) | Provided by you |
| Custom headline | Provided by you |
| Custom description | Provided by you |
| Call to action to install your app | Built-in |
Make creatives from the template
- From a mobile app install line item's Creatives list, click New creative from template. Or, open your advertiser, then click Creatives
Format Gallery in the left menu.
- To show only app install formats, click the App install tab at the top.
- Below App install banner, App install interstitial, or App install with video, click Create. It doesn't matter which you choose, because each of the creation workflows are identical. You can make all 3 creatives at once if you provide a YouTube video.
- If you chose an app to target in your line item, the app is pre-selected for you. Otherwise, enter the app name to search for, then press Enter. Select the app you want to advertise.
- If your app is available in multiple countries, select the country you'd like to advertise your app in. If your app is available in the United States and at least 1 other country, you can select "All" to automatically select the appropriate country for the person viewing the ad. After you've selected a country or "All", the Landing page URL is automatically filled in with the app store link for your app.
- (Optional) To create an interstitial creative with a video, enter a YouTube video URL or YouTube video ID. The YouTube video privacy setting must be either public or unlisted. How to change YouTube video privacy settings
- Expand the “Text” section, then add a headline and description.
- Review the creative preview to make sure you're happy with the final creatives. To switch between creative sizes, use the “Preview” drop-down.
- (Optional) Click Details to edit the creative's name, add tracking tags, an integration code, or notes.
- By default, creatives will be automatically named after the app. The app name will be used as a prefix, with the device compatibility and creative size added to the end. For example, if your app is "YouTube", the final creatives will be named "YouTube_Android_320x50", "YouTube_Android_Interstitial", and "YouTube_Android_Interstitial_Video".
- Note: To prevent possible conversion loss, don't add Campaign Manager tracking tags to templated app install creatives.
- Save your creatives. If you started from the template in a mobile app install line item, click Create and assign to save your creatives and assign them to your line item.

About app store data
When you select an app, your creative details will be filled in based on your local app store information. When the creatives are live, the viewer will see the appropriate content for their location. For example, if you make the creatives in Paris, you'll see the French version of your app details. When the same creatives are live and viewed by someone in Tokyo, they'll see the Japanese app details (as long as your app is available in Japan).
The app store data in the creative will use your latest app store details at the time of creation. There's no need to rebuild your creative when your app store icon or other details are updated. However, if your app adds support for a different country that wasn't available when you made the creative, you'll need to update the creative to select the correct country. To update, edit the creative, remove the app and add it again, then save.
Select the right app store country
Based on your line item targeting, you can select a specific country to make sure to direct people to the appropriate app store page for the country they're in.
How to find a country-specific app store URL
To view the app store URL for a specific country, you need to add a country code parameter to the URL. Each app store uses a different parameter and format.
Google Play Store
To get the Google Play Store URL for a specific country, add the parameter gl to the URL.
For example, let's say you're promoting the Google Photos app. The base play store URL for Google Photos is:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.google.android.apps.photos
If your line item targets France, add the gl parameter to the end along with the country code for France:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.google.android.apps.photos&gl=FR
Apple App Store
http://itunes.apple.com/<country>/app/<app–name>/id<app-ID>?mt=8To get the URL for a specific country, replace <country> with that country's country code.
https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/google-photos/id962194608?mt=8us (the country code for the United States) with the country code for France (fr):https://itunes.apple.com/fr/app/google-photos/id962194608?mt=8
