YouTube videos in YouTube & partners line items

In YouTube & partners line items, creatives are specified by selecting the YouTube video you want in an ad within the YouTube & partners line item's ad group. 

In order for Display & Video 360 to access your videos, your videos must be "Public" or "Unlisted" on YouTube (not "Private"). Additionally, please note you can't use uploaded, third-party served, or Campaign Manager-hosted videos for YouTube in Display & Video 360.

Creative review process

Please note, the videos used in YouTube & partners line items are all subject to a review process to validate the content of the video and behavior of any third-party tracking pixels used. Most ads are reviewed in 1 business day, but complex reviews may take longer.

For certain restricted products and services, you will be asked to manually request this review for each YouTube & partners ad.

Third-party tracking pixel requirements

If you're using pixels from comScore, Nielsen, Kantar, or Dynata, we encourage you to use the Third-Party Viewability, Brand Safety, Brand Lift, and Reach Implementation Template to request Ads Data Hub (ADH) enablement (with your vendor client ID included). Please reach out to your measurement vendor for guidance.

The following vendors are certified for measurement on YouTube:

  • comScore
  • DoubleVerify
  • Dynata
  • IAS
  • Kantar
  • MOAT
  • Nielsen
  • Google (including Google Marketing Platform)

Display & Video 360 does not accept third-party ad tracking pixels that are not from one of these vendors or that make unapproved fourth-party calls to other vendors.

Including third-party tracking pixels (1x1 image pixels) in ads is optional. Third-party tracking pixels are available for TrueView in-stream, bumper, and non-skippable ads, and not video discovery ads. However, if you include them, they must meet requirements for third-party ad serving. They must also follow these requirements:

For third-party pixel implementation: 

  • Tracking pixels are supported for impression, view, and skip events for TrueView in-stream ads. For bumper and non-skippable ads, tracking pixels are supported for impression events. 
  • Up to 3 tracking pixels (which may redirect up to 3 times each) are accepted per event.
  • JavaScript is not allowed.
  • All tracking pixels and any fourth-party calls made within the pixels from daisy-chaining must be SSL-compliant.
  • Click trackers are not included in this implementation process and should be added to your ads before submitting a request. 

For third-party viewability, brand safety, brand lift, and reach measurement implementation:

  • Third-party measurement is only available for TrueView in-stream, bumper, and non-skippable ads if you have a contract with one of the following approved partners and have discussed your implementation with your Google Marketing Platform representative. 
    • Viewability measurement: Integral Ad Science, DoubleVerify, and MOAT
    • Brand safety measurement: Integral Ad Science and DoubleVerify
    • Brand lift measurement: Dynata and Kantar
    • Reach measurement: Nielsen and Comscore
  • There are two steps to implementing viewability, brand safety, brand lift and reach measurement:
    • Provide us with the line item IDs where you want third-party measurement. 
    • Once you've received confirmation that we've enabled these line items for third-party measurement, give your third-party measurement provider your line item IDs, insertion order IDs, and advertiser name so they can complete the implementation process. 
You can now set third-party viewability, brand safety, brand lift, and reach measurement on line items directly in Display & Video 360. Reach out to support with your vendor client ID to enable this feature for your advertiser, and then you can set third-party measurement on individual line items in Additional settings > Third-party vendors. You must submit individual requests for each advertiser you want to have third-party measurement. For example, if you need to request this measurement for 3 advertisers, you'd submit this form 3 times with a separate template per advertiser.
 

To include third-party tracking in your ads, please submit a request (available in English and Japanese only).

Landing pages for TrueView in-stream, bumper, and non-skippable ads

When creating a YouTube & partners line item, you can set the landing page a user will be directed to in the Landing page URL field of a TrueView in-stream, bumper, or non-skippable ad. (This is specified within the ad group section of a YouTube & partners line item). Please note, this URL should be the same domain as your advertiser's website.

If you want to use third-party click tracking, you can specify a third-party click-tracking URL in the Tracking URL options fields.

Optional features

Subtitles: If you want to have subtitles & closed captions appear on the YouTube video you use as an ad, follow these instructions to add them to the video, and then select that video when setting up your YouTube & partners line item. 

Companion banners: You can add companion banners to your TrueView in-stream, bumper, and non-skippable ads. We recommend the option to use an image that's automatically generated from the videos in your YouTube channel. You can also upload your own image that meets the following requirements:

  • Dimensions: 300 x 60
  • File type: JPG, GIF, or PNG
  • File size: 150 KB max
  • GIF frame rate: Less than 5 frames per second

Call-to-action (CTA) overlays: You can add interactive elements to your ads that can help drive clicks to your website. Follow these instructions to add them to your ads.
