How it works
AI-powered search in the Marketplace uses advanced retrieval technology to understand complex, natural language queries. You can type a detailed brief and the system will reason through your request to find relevant publishers, deals, and packages.
Unlike standard keyword search, this feature understands the relationship between entities such as parent companies and their subsidiaries and maps niche semantic intent like “luxury shoppers” or “sports and fitness enthusiasts” to find the most appropriate inventory matches.
Google AI may show inaccurate or irrelevant results. To improve Google AI, we may read, annotate, and process your input. Don’t enter personal information or anything you wouldn’t want reviewed or used.
Your use of this product is subject to Google’s Terms of Service and AI Use Policy. Your data is handled as explained in the Google Privacy Policy.
Search for inventory attributes
AI-powered search in the Marketplace can interpret a wide range of inventory attributes. These include:
- Publishers and brands: Search for specific media owners or parent companies (for example, Disney inventory, NBCU packages, or Paramount).
- Inventory type: Packages, publishers, deals, and central partner deals
- Geo-targeting: Country (targeting at the country level), for example, "United States" or "Japan".
- Device type: Desktop, tablet, mobile, Connected TV (CTV).
- Ad format: Display, video, audio.
- Exchanges: Specific exchanges that you would like to filter the results to.
- Content categories:
- Content verticals: Broad topics like "Sports", "News", "Finance", or "Arts & Entertainment". This is based on a pre-defined list.
- Content genres: Specific genres, primarily for video or CTV, such as "Comedy Films", "TV Dramas", or "Live Comedy". This is based on a pre-defined list.
- Audience demographics:
- Gender: Male, female
- Age: 18-24, 25-34, 35-44, 45-54, 55-64, 65+
- Google audiences:
- Affinity: Broad user interests, for example, "Movie Lovers", "Sports Fans", or "Technophiles".
- In-market: Users actively researching or intending to purchase, for example, "in-market for autos", "in-market for consumer electronics").
- General intent: Phrases indicating interest that can be mapped to the above categories, for example, "inventory for car buyers" or "reach people who like cooking".

Best practices
To get the most out of using AI-powered search in Marketplace, consider these tips:
- Be specific with supported criteria: Include key details about the inventory you need focusing on supported attributes like device, environment, audience, content, and geographical targets.
- Example: "Find video inventory for Gen-Z audiences interested in gaming in Canada."
- Use common terms: The system understands a wide range of synonyms and industry-standard terminology.
- For example, instead of "places to show ads," try "placements" or "inventory."
- Combine attributes to narrow your focus: Combine multiple supported criteria to create a highly specific and effective search. Avoid using qualitative or performance-based terms. For example, "best," "popular," "premium".
- For example, "Find CTV deals for male audiences aged 25 to 54 who are avid movie lovers."
- Leverage content categories and genres: Specify the type of content your ads should appear alongside using broad content verticals or specific content genres.
- For example, "Display ads on news sites for financial services in the UK."
- Review the results: The search provides a ranked list; review the details of the top results to ensure they meet your needs. Note that the results may be limited to one or some inventory types, like packages, publishers, or deals, based on your query and current inventory availability.
- Experiment with phrasing: If your initial search doesn’t yield desired results, try rephrasing your query. You can also use slightly different keywords, especially for audiences or content topics.
- Report inaccurate results (Help the AI learn): Since the feature is in a continuous learning phase, your feedback is crucial. Use the feedback mechanism. For example, a "Was this helpful?" button or icon next to the search results, whenever the search provides an inaccurate or irrelevant inventory list. This input is essential for improving the system's accuracy for all users.
Considerations
AI-powered search in Marketplace currently does not support filtering or searching based on the following criteria. Queries containing these elements will result in an error or a limited, non-compliant result set.
| Unsupported criteria | Examples of unsupported searches |
|---|---|
| Specific performance metrics and sorting | Click rate, viewability, conversions, bid price, or explicit sort commands. For example, "sort by impressions". |
| Granular geographic locations | States, cities, DMAs, or zip codes. For example, "California", "New York City". |
| Specific ad sizes or dimensions | "300x250 display" |
| Specific income levels or unsupported demographics | "Users with high income", "non-binary individuals". |
| Advanced brand safety | Specific brand safety scores or providers |
| Ad placement details | "Above the fold” |
| Browser or operating system | "Targeting Chrome users" |
| Negative targeting | Exclude users interested in games", "inventory that doesn't target sports fans" |
| Non-English languages | Political content or affiliations, targeting minors or users under 18. |
| Competitive intelligence | "Where are my competitors running ads?" |
| Product help | Questions about how to use Display & Video 360. For example, "How do I create an insertion order?". |
Using AI-powered search with Marketplace filters
You can use Marketplace filters alongside your AI search queries to refine your results further. This allows you to combine structured targeting with natural language discovery. How AI-powered search with Marketplace filters work together
When you use AI-powered search and Marketplace filters, Marketplace treats your filters as hard constraints and your search query as the contextual layer. For example, you can apply a filter for a specific exchange and then type a search query for “sports enthusiasts” to find relevant inventory reaching sports fans only within that exchange. When to use what
| Use filters when: | Use AI-powered search when: |
|---|---|
| You have a specific, structured requirement found in a menu (for example, a specific audience list, age/gender demo, or exchange). | You are looking for something not easily found in a menu (for example, tentpole event, niche content vertical, or a specific “vibe”). |
| You want to sort results by estimated impression reach. | You want results ranked by relevance to a specific brief. |
Best practices for combined use
- Avoid redundancy: Don’t use the same criteria in both AI-powered search and Marketplace filters. If you select “United Kingdom” in the geo-filter, you don’t need to type “in the UK” in the search bar.
- Set hard limits first: Use filters to lock in your “must-haves” (like specific exchanges or ad formats), then use the search bar to find the specific content or publishers within those limits.
- Navigate conflicts: Be careful not to apply conflicting logic (like filtering for “Display” while searching for “CTV packages”), as this will result in no matches.
