Create an AdSense or Ad Exchange video line item

This feature isn't available for all networks. If you have questions, please talk to your account manager. In addition, you can fill out the AdSense for video beta form if you're interested in being contacted for future initiatives.

You’ll need an AdSense or Ad Exchange property code to create an AdSense or Ad Exchange line item. If you don't have a property code, please talk to your account manager.

Step 1: Enter the property code in DFP.

If you have an AdSense for video, AdSense for games or Ad Exchange for video property code, enter that code to create a line item for that product in DFP.

To enter your AdSense or Ad Exchange property code in your DFP account, follow these steps:

  1. On the Admin tab, select Network settings.
  2. Click Link an AdSense account if you have an AdSense for video or games property code or click Link an Ad Exchange account for Ad Exchange for video.
    • The email address for the account must have API access. (This email address might be different from the billing email.) You can find the correct email address in your AdSense or Ad Exchange account under Account settings > Access and authorisation > Users with sign-in access.
  3. Enter the required information, then click Save. You’ll then receive an email requesting confirmation that you want to link accounts; once you verify that you do, changes are reflected immediately.

If you don't see the changes reflected immediately, sign out of DFP and sign in again after 15-20 minutes.

Step 2: Create a new video line item.

  1. On the Orders tab, choose one of these options:

  2. Name the line item.

  3. Select the Video VAST radio button.

  4. In the Master field, enter a video size. Suggested video sizes appear as you type, representing the video sizes in your inventory. The letter "v" appears automatically at the end of all video sizes.

  5. In the Type drop-down menu, select AdSense or Ad Exchange, depending on which property code you'd like to utilise for this line item.

  6. Enter your remaining line item settings, then click Save.

Step 3: Add creatives.

For AdSense line items, follow these steps to add creatives:

  1. In the AdSense line item, click Add creative sets > new creative set.

  2. Name the creative.

  3. Optional: In the Channels text box, enter one or more channel IDs from the Customised channel section of your AdSense for video or games account. DFP will append the channels to the tag and provide granular reporting for that channel. See the AdSense Help Centre article about channels.

  4. Select the Format for your creatives.
  5. Select the Format for your creatives.

    • Video: A linear ad. Options include TrueView InStream and standard video. With standard video, select a Maximum duration for the ads.

    • Overlay: A non-linear ad that covers part of the video content as it plays. Options include text, image and Flash.

  6. Click Save.

For Ad Exchange line items, follow these steps to add creatives:

  1. In the Ad Exchange line item, click Add creative sets > new creative set.

  2. Name the creative.

  3. Optional: In the Channels text box, enter one or more channel IDs from the Customised channels page of your Ad Exchange for video account. DFP appends the channels to the tag. See the AdSense Help Centre article about channels to learn more.

  4. Optional: In the Ad Exchange video ad unit text box, enter one or more ad unit IDs from the Ad unit page of your Ad Exchange for video account.

  5. Select the Format for your creatives.

    • Video: A linear ad. If you choose this option, select a Maximum duration for the ads.

    • Overlay: A non-linear ad that covers part of the video content as it plays. Options include text, image and Flash.

  6. Click Save.

For Ad Exchange line items, you'll need to append description_url to DFP tags:

Make sure the description_url parameter is being set in your ad tags. This is mandatory for publishers using the Network Partner Management feature. The description URL is compared to an NPM publisher's list of classified domains to see if ads are eligible to serve. If the description URL doesn't match a classified domain, no ads will serve.

The description URL is used to categorise and rate the content on the page. description_url should be a video-specific URL (NOT the domain for all ad requests). Advertisers can see the content's category (vertical) and rating (G, Teen, Mature and Not Rated).

    Example: http://pubads.g.doubleclick.net/gampad/ad&s?sz=640x480&iu=/NetworkID/AdUnit&ciu_szs&impl=s&gdfp_req=1&env=vp&output=xml_vast2&unviewed_position_start=1&url=referrer_url]&correlator=[timestamp]&description_url=http%3A%2F%2FMySite.com%2Fvideo_description_page.html
