Configure rates and product exclusions in multiple place

Learn about different places in DFP to set rates and exclude products

DFP admin content This article is for administrators or roles with similar permissions

In the previous articles, you learned how to configure various details in a rate card, such as indicating the product rate for a product or specifying an override for a product rate. DFP sales management provides the flexibility of configuring various aspects not only from rate cards but from other parts of DFP. You can, for instance, specify an override for a product rate from the product itself and not the rate card.

This article provides details about alternative ways or places to configure some of the attributes outlined in previous articles.

We'll cover the following topics:

Configure product rates from product templates

You can add a product template to a rate card and specify the product rate at for the product template. This means every product under the product template will available to sales representatives in the catalog under that rate card and use that product rate.

You can accomplish the same result when building product templates. You can add a rate card when creating or editing a product template, specifying a product rate. This means every product under the product template will available to sales representatives in the catalog under that rate card and use that product rate.

You'll see a reflection of your changes on either the rate card or the product template, regardless of where you made the change.

Override product rate from product details

To override a product rate means to specify a product rate for an individual product that is different from the one designated in the product template. There are two places in DFP where you can override the product rate. One is in a rate card under the "Products" tab: this procedure is described in Override product rates from rate card. In this section, we'll show you how to achieve the same result by editing the details of an individual product.

  1. Navigate to a product details page.

Under the Sales tab, click Products from the left navigation. Find the product you want to edit. Note that the list or product page first shows the name of the product template followed by the name of the individual product. For example:

    Product template name ›
    Individual product name

Click on the name of the individual product to access its details.

  2. Under the Product rates section of the product details, find associated rate cards.
  3. Select the checkbox next to Override.
  4. You can now enter a new product rate for the individual product that is unique from the product rate it would otherwise inherit from its product template.
  5. Click Save.

You'll see a reflection of your changes on either the rate card or the product details, regardless of where you made the change. To revert the product rate to the one designated in the product template, simply deselect "Override". This feature is similar to your ability to override the product name for an individual product but later revert to the product name originally intended by the product template.

Exclude individual products from a rate card

The methods here are similar to configuring override product rates. You can exclude individual products from rate card or achieve the same result from the product details page.

  1. Navigating to a product details page.

  3. Deselect the checkbox next to the name of the rate card from which you want to exclude this product.
  4. Click Save.

The product is now excluded from the rate card, while other product generated by the product template can still be included in the rate card. You'll see a reflection of your changes on either the rate card or the product details, regardless of where you made the change.

Configure packaged product rates from the product package

You can configure packaged product rates from the rate card or you can similarly do the same when you create or edit product packages. See Create product packages for details.
