Traffic Flash creatives

A Flash creative is based on a Flash (SWF) file, which allows for animation, sound, video, and interactive features. The creative also usually includes a fallback image file that can be delivered to users whose browsers can't properly display the Flash file.

To add a Flash creative:

  1. On the Delivery tab, click Creatives in the left-hand navigation.

  2. Click Add creatives.

  3. Begin typing to search for the advertiser whose creative you're adding. Each creative is associated with one advertiser.

  4. When you've found the right advertiser, click Continue.

  5. Click Flash.

  6. Enter the name for your creative.

  7. In the Flash file field, select the creative on your computer. You can only use SWF files.

  8. (Optional) In the Fallback image file field, select a fallback image, which will appear if a user can't view Flash. We recommend always including a fallback image.

    Alternatively, if you want to use a Flash (SWF) file and fallback image that are hosted on a third-party ad server, click Use remote SWF and fallback image URLs, then enter the URLs where the files are located.

  9. Enter the Click-through URL for your creative's landing page. This click-through URL will be used if the Flash file doesn't have its own clickTAG or if you choose to override the clickTAG.

  10. (Optional) Enable Allow Flash without clickTAG if you want to allow Flash files that don't track clicks. You can use this feature if you're not concerned with tracking clicks or if you intend to track clicks by overriding the clickTAG and having DFP track clicks directly. Learn more about clickTAGs.

  11. (Optional) Override the clickTAG if you want DFP to track clicks directly, rather than through the clickTAG attribute of the Flash file. You can use this feature for Flash files that don't have clickTAG attributes or where the clickTAG is not working correctly.

    The click-through override works by adding a transparent layer of HTML over the Flash file. The layer contains your click-through URL. When your creative is delivered, users won't be able to interact with the Flash file. Any click will take the user to the creative's click-through URL. Similarly, any third-party click tracking that's built into the Flash file won't work, because users won't actually be clicking on the Flash file. DFP will track clicks.

  12. Select the Target ad unit size where the creative should be delivered.

  13. Click Save.

If you've selected a creative for upload that doesn't match the ad unit size you specified, you'll receive an error message when you save. Select Allow creative size to differ from ad unit size to resize the ad unit. (For example, if you upload a 400x400 creative to a 300x250 ad unit, DFP will accommodate the larger creative. Or, if you upload a 200x200 creative to the same ad unit, the creative would only occupy 200x200 pixels on your page.)
