Manage your DFP Video ad rules

Some video features might not be enabled for your network. To learn more, contact your account manager.

The "Ad rules" section of the "Video" tab shows the list of video ad rules that you've created, along with the default ad rule. Ad rules are applied in the order of their priority, so the default ad rule is located at the bottom of the list.

Edit a video ad rule

  1. Sign in to DoubleClick for Publishers.
  2. Click Video and then Ad rules.
  3. Open the ad rule and edit any of the settings you chose to create a video ad rule.
  4. Click SAVE.

You can pause or resume an ad rule by changing the status to Active or Inactive.

  1. Sign in to DoubleClick for Publishers.
  2. Click Video and then Ad rules.
  3. Enter the new priority next to the ad rule and press Enter on your keyboard.
  4. Your other ad rules automatically update accordingly.
Learn more about video ad rule priority

Video ad rules with different settings can merge and both apply to video content. For conflicting settings, DFP chooses from the ad rule with the highest priority. The examples below illustrate merging and conflicting ad rules. In each example, Ad Rule 1 has the higher priority.

Example 1
Ad Rule 1 shows mid-roll ads at the 30-second mark, and Ad Rule 2 shows mid-roll ads at the 1-minute mark. These two ad rules merge to show ads at the 30-second and 1-minute marks.

Example 2
Ad Rule 1 excludes mid-roll ads, but Ad Rule 2 shows mid-roll ads at the 1-minute mark. DFP chooses the setting of the higher priority Ad Rule 1 and blocks mid-roll ads completely. Other settings of Ad Rule 2 aren't blocked, as long as they don't conflict with Ad Rule 1.

Example 3
Ad Rule 1 shows mid-roll ads at the first cue point, and Ad Rule 2 shows mid-roll ads at the 1-minute mark. If a video has a cue point at 30 seconds, both ad rules apply. However, if a video has a cue point at the 1-minute mark, the settings of Ad Rule 1 apply.

Delete a video ad rule
