Transferring group ownership

If you would like to identify a new organizer to step up as the new primary organizer of your group, please follow these steps:

  1. Cancel your own meetup subscription. If you do not organize any other groups besides the GDG Meetup group, please be sure to cancel your Meetup subscription! The subscription is tied to your account, rather than the group. Cancel it from your Organizer Subscription page
  2. Contact Meetup Pro Support team (pro@meetup.com) from the email address you use with your Meetup account. Please CC the new organizer to request that your discount be applied to the nominated organizer account. Please write the following:
    I am a Meetup organizer and GDG is sponsoring my Meetup subscription. I would like to transfer ownership of my Meetup Group [LINK TO MEETUP GROUP] to this member [LINK TO NOMINATED MEMBER PROFILE]. Please transfer my sponsored discount to their account.
  3. Once you’ve received email confirmation from Pro Support that your discount has been transferred:
    1. Go to the Meetup group homepage.
    2. Select ‘Manage group’ and select ‘Step down as organizer’

      Select Manage and then Step down as organizer

    3. Search for the new organizer’s Meetup name
    4. Check the box besides their name (make sure no other names are selected) and select ‘Next’
    5. Add a custom message if you’d like
    6. Select ‘Make nomination’
  4. What happens next:
    1. The nominated organizer will receive a notification that they’ve been nominated, and they can accept it from the group’s homepage in order to complete the transfer of ownership.

      They will be required to enter their credit card information, but they will be charged $0.00.
