Redeeming your GDG sponsored ticket

Before you click on the Meetup ticket link, make sure you’re logged into your Meetup.com account in your browser by clicking "Log in" in the top right hand corner.

  1. Click the “Meetup Ticket” link from your email.

    After clicking, you should see this confirmation message: “A GDG pass has been added to your Meetup account”.
  2. Click “Start a new Meetup”.
  3. Start your GDG Meetup Group:
    1. Choose your location.
    2. Choose topics.
      Please search for “Technology” and add that topic.  You are welcome to add additional topics based on the interests of your community.
    3. Add a title.
      Please use the format of “GDG <Chapter Name>” for your Meetup name.
    4. Add your description following the GDG Description guidelines:
      1. Start the introduction with a description of the group, such as “a group of developers that foster learning of Google’s developer technologies” or “local community-ran meetup for developers interested in resources and technology from Google Developers.”
      2. Conclude with this disclaimer:
        Disclaimer: GDG <Chapter Name> is an independent group; our activities and the opinions expressed here should in no way be linked to Google, the corporation. To learn more about the GDG program, visit https://developers.google.com/groups/
      3. All Meetup Groups must also align with Meetup policies
    5. Agree & Continue.
  4. [For US, Canada, Great Britain and Australia ONLY] Start your subscription using the GDG sponsorship discount.
    1. Select the Unlimited Plan and a 6 month subscription period. The total amount should be $0.
       
      If the amount is higher than $0, please STOP! You may need to restart the process or request a new ticket from your regional lead.

 

What happens next?

  1. Meetup Group announcement
    1. All Meetup Groups are announced via email a few days after they’re created. Meetup will announce the group to members in your area that might be interested.
    2. You can usually expect a flurry of new members within the first couple of days. 
  2. Meetup Group map visibility
    Your Meetup Group will be displayed on the official GDG Meetup Pro map page.
  3. “Worldwide” Link
    On your group’s homepage, you will see a ‘Worldwide’ link, which directs members back to the official GDG map page
