Manage event tags

Manage event tag application

You can manage the application of your impression and click event tags in the Event tags section of your advertiser, campaign, or ad in Campaign Manager 360.

You can also manage event tags using the Campaign Manager 360 API. If you do, note that the API refers to applied tags as default tags.

Event tag views

You can use the following views to check and manage your event tags in your advertiser or campaign properties:

  • Applied tags: This view lists every event tag that is applied automatically to ads in all your campaigns. Every ad will serve with these event tags listed in this view unless you set an override for a particular campaign or ad in their respective properties. Overrides let you choose which tags to use. To view which overrides are set for a tag, click Advertiser tags or Campaign tags and open the tag's properties.
  • Advertiser tags: This view lets you apply or unapply tags from the advertiser.
  • Campaign tags: This view lets you create, manage, and apply tags for the selected campaign.

You can also view the type, status, and application of your event tags from the Campaign page and edit multiple event tags at once.

  1. In Campaign Manager 360, click All campaigns and select the campaign you want to check.
  2. Click Views: Event tags to view all event tags for the campaign.

Manage impression event tags

You can configure your impression event tags and select if you want to automatically add them to your campaigns and creatives, or if you want to apply them on specific campaigns and ads only.

Advertiser settings

  1. In Campaign Manager 360, click All advertisers and select the advertiser you want to check.
  2. Click Properties and expand the Event tags section.
  3. Under “Impression event tags“, click Advertiser tags.
  4. Open the impression event tag you want to configure and select from the following options in the “Application” field:
    • Apply automatically: When configured through the advertiser settings, this will apply your event tag to all the ads in all the campaigns under the advertiser by default.
    • Apply manually: When configured through the advertiser settings, your event tag will not be applied to any campaigns by default. It’ll only be used in a campaign or ad if you manually apply it in the campaign or ad properties.
  5. Click Save.

Campaign settings

  1. In Campaign Manager 360, click All campaigns and select the campaign you want to check.
  2. Click Properties and expand the Event tags section.
  3. Under “Impression event tags“, click Campaign tags.
  5. Click Save.

Ad settings

  1. In Campaign Manager 360, click All campaigns and select the campaign you want to check.
  2. Click Properties and expand the Event tags section.
  3. Under “Impression event tags“, click Applied tags and review the tags that are applied to your ad.
  4. Click Advertiser tags or Campaign tags and locate the tag you want to remove.
  5. Select either of the following options:
    • Never apply: Select this option to remove the tag from the ad.
    • Always apply: Select this option to apply the tag to the ad.
  6. Click Save.
Note: The Never apply and Always apply settings override the configurations you have at the advertiser or campaign level. You can only change these settings in the ad.

Manage click event tags

You can apply click event tags in your advertiser, campaign, or ad properties. If you apply a click event tag at the advertiser level, it applies to all campaigns and ads underneath. However, you can open a campaign and change the click event tag setting for that campaign only. Likewise, you can open a specific ad and change which click event tag is applied to that ad.

Note: You can only apply one click event tag to each ad. Campaign Manager 360 applies the click event tag based on your advertiser, campaign, and ad settings.

Advertiser settings

  1. In Campaign Manager 360, click All advertisers and select the advertiser you want to check.
  2. Click Properties and expand the Event tags section.
  3. Under “Click event tags“, perform any of the following:
    • Click Applied tags to view the click event tags used in all ads in all campaigns by default.
    • Click Advertiser tags to view all the click event tags in your advertiser.
    • Open the tag properties and click Overrides on the upper left to check which overrides are currently set.

If you want to apply a different click event tag to ads in a campaign, or make an exception for just one ad, open the ad or campaign properties and make your selection there.

Campaign settings

  1. In Campaign Manager 360, click All campaigns and select the campaign you want to check.
  2. Click Properties and expand the Event tags section.
  3. Under “Click event tags“, click Applied tags.
  4. Make the necessary changes in this section if you want to apply a different click event tag to ads in this campaign by default:
    • To select a different tag, click the Inherit parent click tag button to unlock your settings. The button should now say Override parent click tag, and you can proceed in selecting specific event tags.
    • To use the tag set in your campaign or advertiser, ensure that the button above your tag list shows Inherit parent click tag. Click the button if it says Override parent click tag. This will lock the ad's click tag settings to the campaign, which may be set to use a campaign-level click tag or to inherit one from the advertiser.
  5. To check which overrides are currently set for your ads, open the tag properties under Campaign tags and click Overrides.
  6. Click Save.

Ad settings

Your ad's click event tag is based on settings in the advertiser or campaign above it. To configure the click tag settings on your ad properties:

  1. In Campaign Manager 360, click All campaigns and select the campaign that contains the ad you wish to configure.
  2. Click Views: Ads and select the ad you want to configure.
  3. Under the Properties tab, expand the Click event tags section.
  4. Make the necessary changes in this section:
    • To select a different tag for this ad, toggle on Override parent click tag and select the specific tag you want to use.
    • To inherit the click event tag settings from the advertiser or campaign, toggle off Override parent click tag.
  5. Click Save.

Manage event tags in creative settings

You can’t manage event tags in the creative properties. However, you can deactivate event tags for a creative in any given ad.

  1. In Campaign Manager 360, click All campaigns and select the campaign that contains the ad you wish to configure.
  2. Click Views: Ads and select the ad you want to configure.
  3. Open the Creative assignments section of the assigned ad.
  4. For any given creative row, you can toggle the Apply event tags.
    • Toggled on: Event tags applied to the assigned ad can track your creative.
    • Toggled off: Event tags applied to the assigned ad can’t track your creative. This doesn’t deactivate event tags for your creative in other ads.
