Traffic display image gallery creatives

A display image gallery creative cycles through a set of images on a webpage or mobile app. It works like a slideshow. Your audience can cycle through the images manually by clicking the gallery arrows. Or you can set your gallery to automatically rotate its image every three seconds.

Here's a screenshot of a 300x250 display image gallery creative, shown at actual size. You can see the rotation arrows on each side, a back arrow and a forward arrow.

1. Add display image gallery creatives

You have two options:
  • Add one creative manually: Click New > Display image gallery from the New menu in your campaign or your advertiser-level Creatives tab.

  • Batch upload assets: Choose New > Batch upload from the New menu. After you upload your files, choose Display image gallery in the "Type" column for one of your creatives. Add or remove image assets with the asset drop-down menu. Learn more

2. Set up display image gallery creatives

Open your display image gallery creative in your campaign or your advertiser-level "Creatives" tab. Or add a new creative using the steps above.

The setup process is quick. It's about the same as setting up a standard image creative. The difference is that you can add multiple images, choose how they rotate, and set different landing pages and reporting labels for them.

Set identification properties

Name your creative and review the identification properties.

Upload assets and set rotation order
  1. Under "Creative assets," add up to 10 standard images (GIF, JPEG, PNG, or WBMP). You can add or remove assets at any time.

  2. Choose the order in which your images will appear.

    • Your images are ordered in the "Assets" section from top to bottom. The top row will appear first and the bottom row will appear last.

    • To change the order: Under "Position," click the up and down arrows to change the order of your assets.

For example, say an asset is in the second row. That means it will appear second. If you want your asset to appear first, click the up arrow to move it to the top row.

  3. Choose manual or automatic image rotation.

    • Manual rotation means the user must manually click the gallery arrows on the creative to cycle through its images. If you want this option, leave the Auto advance images box unchecked.

    • Automatic rotation means the creative will change its image every 3 seconds, in the order you see in the "Assets" section (top to bottom). If you want this option, check the Auto advance images box, under "Advanced properties".

Set reporting labels and landing pages

Choose reporting labels and landing pages in the "Assets" columns.

  1. Reporting labels: Reporting labels help you check which images in your creative are clicked and which are shown for each impression.

    • Campaign Manager names your reporting labels after the files you upload. Edit the name in the "Reporting labels" column.

    • Add display image gallery reporting labels in the Rich Media section of your Standard report in Report Builder. Click NEW REPORT and then click + add next to Rich Media in your report setup. Then search for your reporting labels.

  2. Landing pages: These are the landing pages each asset will go to after a click. Edit them in the "Landing page" column. You can pick from your advertiser landing pages or use a custom landing page.

To view all the asset columns more easily, expand your creative properties pane with the expand icon on the upper right.

Preview your creative

Click the preview button at the bottom of your properties, near the "Save" button.

Click Show details Show details, then expand the Event summary panel to check data on interactions with the creative. Learn more about display image gallery preview in the creative preview guide.

You can also preview each individual asset in the "Assets" section, under "Preview."

Generate tags for placements with display image gallery creatives

If you wish to track this creative with event tags, generate JavaScript or Iframe/JavaScript tags for its placement when you generate tags. Standard tags will not fire event tags.

3. View display image gallery metrics

View display image gallery metrics in Reporting. Add these metrics when you create a Standard report in Report Builder. Here are the available metrics:

  • Average display time

  • Total display time

  • Average interaction time

  • Total interaction time

  • Interactive impressions

  • Clicks - The total number of clicks on all your creative's images.

  • Timers - View custom timers that indicate how long each image is displayed, and the total time the creative was displayed. Add timers to the Rich Media section of your Standard report.

  • Counters - View custom counters for how many times each image in your creative was viewed or switched. Add counters to the Rich Media section of your Standard report.

  • Display image gallery exits - Add display image gallery exit reporting labels in the Rich Media section of your Standard report. They should match the reporting labels shown for each exit in the "Click tags" section of your display image gallery creative properties. You can view clicks on each image in your gallery by checking the clicks associated with these labels. You can also add the label associated with your backup asset exit. Note that there is no metric called "display image exits."
