Dear Data Studio fans,

This week's release includes the ability to filter your charts by a range of metric values, and improved handling of changing data sources in your reports.

Filter charts by metric values
You can now add a metric slider control to your charts. Report viewers can use this to filter a chart by metric value. For example, you can limit the chart to only show Average Orders where the total value is between $100 and $200, or where Levels Completed (in a game) is less than 5. Learn more.
Improved data source switching
We've improved how Data Studio handles replacing a data source in your reports. When you switch a data source in your report, Data Studio tries to map the fields in the old data source to the fields in the new data source based on a number of matching criteria, including field ID, field name, and other configuration information from the report itself. Learn more.

Thanks for your interest in Data Studio.

Hi Guys,

after that release, every time when I change data source in my report, I'm loosing all my granularity setups on date dimensions. It always worked before - these data sources have the same structure and format (different tables from Big Query with the same structure).

I mean something like this:

I need dimension closed_at with Year Month granularity (or Year Week in other charts).
After every data source changes I have Date (YYYYMMDD) there again.

Is it possible that it's some bug?

Hi everybody,

after the release oft he improved data source switching, I cannot copy reports anymore without getting incomplete chart configurations.

While this error message may be daily business while working with GDS, the problem ist, that I cannot configure the copied charts anymore. The configurations won’t load, that’s why I cannot identify what’s wrong with the chart configuration and cannot fix the issue.

We never had this issue before. The data sources have the same structure and format (different BigQuery tables with the same structure).
Is it possible, that it’s a bug?

Aneta -- thanks for reporting that. I can see it happening on my reports as well. Currently working on a fix.

Johannes -- that sounds like a new bug. Would you mind sharing one of the broken reports with data-studio-help@google.com?

Hi Alan,

thank you for working on our problem!
Unfortunately, these reports contain customer data. That’s why we’re not able to share them. Do you have another idea how to solve the problem? Maybe we can send you some screenshots?

Hello everybody,
I'm experiencing something similar to what Johannes indicate, after the release, it seems a bug.
I've a Data Studio report with a Google Ads data source, and in some reports now I see these errors:
It happens only on reports containing metric "Click Conversion Rate" (Google Ads), filtered by "Segment Conversion Type Name".
"Click Conversion Rate" (Google Ads) AUT metric does not work anymore, if associated to the dimension "Segment Conversion Type Name".
I tried to replicate that metric creating a calculated one, but this doesn't work either.
I also tried to refresh data source, and reconnect it, but the issue remains.

Thanks in advance for your help!

Aneta - the bug where granularity wasn't being preserved should be fixed as of yesterday's release. Thanks again for finding it!

Johannes - Screenshots might help, it depends on what the issue is. Two other options that might work:
1. Share a copied report with me, but update the datasource to "Viewers credentials". (Resources > Manage added datasources > Edit, and then click the label in the header that says "Credentials: Owner". That way I won't be able to see the data but the broken report configuration will be intact.
2. Remove the datasource from the report (Resources > Manage added datasources > Remove).
Option 1 is better since this might be something specific to the datasource that I can't see unless I can see the datasource's schema.

Maria - That looks like a different issue, but if you share your report with data-studio-help@google.com I'll take a look.
