Users in Data Studio don't match those in Google Analytics over the specified date range 0 Recommended Answers 8 Replies 59 Upvotes

I've seen questions similar to this one elsewhere, but none of them gave me the answer I need.

I've set up a simple scorecard chart that shows users on my site for the selected date range. I haven't added any filters or segments to this scorecard, and the data is not sampled. However, when I set the date range for January 1, 2019 thru March 31, 2019, Google Analytics shows my site having 6,004 users and Google Data Studio shows 6,003. It's only off by one user, but it's bothering me that I can't figure out why this has happened.

In addition, I have some other scorecards that have filters applied to filter by channel groupings. I've noticed that the "users" metric for some of these channel groupings is also off, by up to 40 users in some cases (over the course of 3 months).

This doesn't happen with any other metrics (sessions, pageviews, new users, goal completions, etc.). It only happens with the users metric. I've already ruled out that it is a result of adding a segment, adding a filter, or sampling of data. I'm also using a simple scorecard, so it doesn't have anything to do with the difference between how GA tabulates daily data and how a date range of data is calculated, as might occur with a time series chart. Can anyone explain to me why I'm getting a different number for users?

I am seeing the same issue with the user metric. I too have a scorecard in my report for the user metric, and it is showing a different count than what I see in Google Analytics for the same date range. The weird thing is, the scorecards for sessions, page views, and other metrics are all matching exactly what GA says. The problem only seems to exist for the user metric.

Also, I have a time series chart right below the scorecard that shows our user count plotted out over the months, and the counts are actually correct and matching GA in the time series chart. It's only incorrect in the scorecard, which is odd.

GA is not sampling (only looking at a one month date range), and the same segment is applied to both GA and the scorecard. Anyone figure out a way to fix this?

I'm also seeing this.  I've added 4 scorecards both in my report and in GA dashboard, and am seeing completely different numbers.  All have the same filters/date range.

I'm seeing this as well, but I see almost double the number of users in Data Studio compared to Analytics. I do have filters set in Data Studio, but those should reduce the number of users, not double them. I'm quite confused.

Same here. Why is it different? I choose the same dimension, Users, on both platforms.

Same here.

On google analytics I see the organic traffic for user showing 6,838 users on October 2019.  On Google Data Studio I see a different number even using the same data source and the Organic traffic segment I have 9,734 users.

I, too, have this issue. The Users metric in Data Studio (in a scorecard) doesn't match up with GA. The discrepancy can vary depending on the filters I apply in the dashboard. Sometimes the difference is small enough to shrug off, and sometimes it's significantly off.

This makes me not trust anything in my dashboard!

If anyone has a solution to the Users issue, or knows why this happens, let me know.

I'm running into this for session data as well. I created a chart with session data for two specific pages for the same time frame, same view, and no sampling (very small data sets).  Yet it shows 4 sessions for a specific page on the Analytics saved report and none on the Data Studio chart.

This page explains the difference in users and how GA vs Data Studio is calculating.
