Add pages and report navigation

Learn how to create multipage reports in Data Studio.

Use multiple pages and various navigation styles  to organize related charts, minimize the complexity of any given page, improve report performance, and avoid "information overload" for your viewers.

In this article:

Add pages to a report

  1. Edit the report.
  2. In the menu, select Page > New Page.

Other ways to add pages

If your report only has 1 page:

On the left in the toolbar, click Add page.

Add page

If your report has more than one page:

  1. Click Page __ of __ in the toolbar to open the Manage pages pane.
  2. Click Create to add a page to your report.

Manage pages pane

As well as adding pages, you can use the Manage pages pane to structure your reports by adding expandable sections, dividers, and headers.

Manage pages pane.

It is also possible to add icons to a page or section. Sections and icons appear when you view the report.

Example report navigation in View mode showing 3 sections: Overview, Campaign Performance, and Audiences and Assets.

Example report navigation in View mode.

Three levels of content are supported. You can't add a section at level 3.

  1. Page (level 1)
  2. Section (level 1)
    1. Page (level 2)
    2. Section (level 2)
      1. Page (level 3)

To move between report pages, sections, and headers:

  • Use the Manage pages pane to jump to a specific page, section, or header.
    • Note: in Edit mode, the Manage pages pane appears on the right. Navigation in View mode depends on the Navigation type property set for the report. See below.
  • Use the keyboard:
    • Left and right arrows, or page up and page down navigate to the next page /previous page.
    • Home and end keys navigate to the first page / last page.
  • In Edit mode, use the search box in the Manage Pages pane to find a page, section, or header by name.
    • Note that this doesn't search for text in the report itself.

Make changes to a page or navigation item

  1. Edit the report.
  2. Click Page __ of __ in the toolbar to open the Manage pages pane.
  3. Hover over a specific item.
  4. Click More More options..
  5. Select the action you want to do:

New pages and sections have the default name of "Untitled Page" and "Untitled Section" while headers have the default name "Header". Select Rename, then enter a better name.

Duplicating a page creates a copy of that page in the current report. You can't duplicate an entire section.

To copy a page from one report to another report, select all the components on the original page, then paste them into a page of the target report. This adds any data sources used in the original report to the target report. Page style or theme settings won't be copied from the original page.
Learn more about copying reports.

Deleting a page, section, or navigation item removes it from the report.

If you remove a page or section by mistake, you can undo this using Edit > Undo or Ctrl + Z/Cmd + Z.
If undo doesn't work (because you've reloaded the report or signed out and back into Data Studio) you can use version history to restore a previous version of the report that contains the deleted pages.
Note: Deleting a section will delete all pages within that section.

Hide in view mode

To prevent viewers from seeing a page or section in the report, you can hide it. You might want to do this if it contains information you only want other editors to see. When you hide a page or section:

  • Report viewers can't navigate to that page or section.
  • Report editors can still see and edit that page or section.
  • That page or section won't appear in PDF downloads.
  • If you copy the report, that page or section is also copied but remains hidden.

To unhide a page or section, select it again, then click More More options.> Show in view mode.

Select icon

Navigation drawer collapsed, showing section icons only.Using Select icon lets you search for an icon to add to a page or section in your report. To add or replace an icon:

  1. Click Select icon.
  2. Use the search option or select a Category to find an icon.
  3. Click Apply.
You can collapse the navigation drawer by clicking Chevron left the bottom of the drawer. If you've added icons, you'll those instead of page numbers:

  • Icons can only be applied to the top level of content. Pages within a section, for example, can't have an icon.
  • If you apply an icon, all top-level content will have an icon. If no icon is selected, a default icon will appear for pages and sections.
