Tutorial: Add charts to your report

Add data-driven visualizations to your report.

Charts are the heart of Data Studio. In this lesson, you'll add a a pie chart, a bar chart and a geo map to this report. Yay charts!

This article assumes you are using the [Sample] Google Analytics Data data source, as described in the previous article. If you are using a different data source, you may need to select the appropriate dimensions and metrics for each chart.
In this article:

1 Add a pie chart

school icon Use a pie chart to give a general comparison of a small number of metrics or variables.

Learn more about pie charts.

Pie chart
  1. Click the Pie Chart icon on the toolbar: Pie chart icon
  2. Draw the chart below the time series.
  3. On the right, select the DATA tab of the properties panel.
  4. Click the Source dimension chip to display the Dimension Picker.
  5. Select the User Type dimension.

For Google Analytics data, Data Studio automatically selects the geographic dimension. If you are using a different data source, be sure it contains a valid geo dimension.

  1. Click the Geo Map icon from the toolbar: Geo Map icon
  2. Draw the chart next to the bar chart.
  3. Select Visible Area to change the map's zoom level to a continent or country.
  4. Select the STYLE tab in the properties panel.
  5. Use the color pickers to change the map colors to shades of red (so you can see the world through rose colored glasses):
