Data Studio comes with a number of report templates. These appear in the panel at the top of the REPORTS home page, as well as in the list of reports that have been shared with you. The template reports highlight some of the features and capabilities of Data Studio. You can also use these templates to quickly create your own awesome reports! By adding your own data source to a copy of a template report, you'll have an attractive, fully functioning report in seconds!

Use a sample report template
- Click the template.
- Click USE TEMPLATE In the upper right.
- Select the data source(s) to use in the copy.
The Create new report dialog (shown below) lists the original data sources currently added to the template on the left. On the right, you can choose the data sources to use in your copied report. If the original data source has been shared with you, you can use that one. Or you can select one of your own data sources, or even create a new one at this time.
- Click CREATE REPORT.
In a moment, you'll have your very own copy of the sample report. You can modify the report by changing to edit mode, by using the toggle in in the upper right. Give your report a new name by editing the "Copy of …" name in the upper left.
Use any report as a template
Any report in Data Studio can be used as a template. Just save a copy of the report and replace the original data source(s) with your own:
- View the report.
- In the top right, click and then click Make a copy.
- In the Create new report dialog, select the data source(s) to use.
- Click CREATE REPORT.
You can now edit and customize the new report.
You can append
/preview to the end of the report's URL to add a USE TEMPLATE button to the report. This button makes your report behave exactly like the sample reports built into Data Studio. This makes it even easier for you to create your own report templates.
If you add a data source that doesn't match the schema of the original data source, the charts and controls on the report may break (since they won't have access to the dimensions and metrics they were built on).
For example, if you create a report using the Google Merchandise Store sample, you should replace the [Sample] Google Analytics data data source with a similar Google Analytics data source that has Ecommerce features in Google Analytics enabled.
