Transition from Google Site Search to Custom Search Engine

Google Site Search (GSS) will be completely shut down by April 1, 2018.

When your GSS subscription expires or the quota is exhausted, your subscription will automatically convert to Custom Search Engine (CSE). Custom Search Engine is an ads-supported product that provides similar capabilities to GSS, including the ability to build custom search engines for sites or pages, image search for your website, and customize the look and feel of search results. Please review the differences between GSS and CSE. If you do not wish to use Custom Search Engine, you have the ability to delete your engine on the CSE home page.

Here are a few answers to some common questions about the transition to CSE.

Q: Can I stop ads from showing on CSE?

A: Non-profits, schools, and governments may apply for the ads-free version of CSE, which allows ads to be removed from CSE. Learn More. Other groups can use the JSON API at a cost of $5 per thousand queries. Learn More
