Google Site Search - Licensing Changes

Based on customer input, product usage and the need for simplicity, we are changing the way we charge for Google Site Search. Our previous licensing was based on a combination of the number of web pages included in Site Search index and the number of search queries executed by your site search engine per year. Starting November 12, 2010, the new licensing only takes into account the number of queries issued to your search engine annually.

How does the pricing change affect my current Site Search subscription?

Your current GSS subscription is completely unaffected. You will still be on the legacy "page count + query count" licensing model that you originally signed up under. You will not switch to the new, query-only licensing until your next renewal.

Can I switch my current subscription to the new pricing structure?

We are not able to switch your existing subscription to the new structure. You can, however, renew early or upgrade your subscription, both of which would switch you to the new, query-only system. To begin this process, email us.

Can I renew my Site Search subscription and keep my existing quotas?

When you renew your GSS subscription, you will be switching over to the new pricing structure. Your old page count and query count quotas will no longer apply, so be sure you are aware of your previous year's query count so that you renew at the appropriate price level.

How do I estimate the number of queries I will generate in a year?

If you are renewing, you should base your estimate on the number of queries your GSS generated during the previous year. You can find this information by logging into your GSS control panel, clicking "statistics," and checking your overall usage. If you have never had and tracked a search engine on your site before, we recommend contacting our sales team to get guidance on this.

If I need to upgrade my existing GSS, which pricing structure will I upgrade into?

Any new purchases, upgrades, and renewals will fall under the new pricing structure.

What should I do if I am going to or have exceeded my query quota?

You will need to upgrade to a higher SKU. Google Site Search engines purchased online can be upgraded to higher query volume in the Control Panel. Google Site Search engines purchased through our sales need to contact the GSS support team to upgrade the license.
