Hesitant to join CS First with 5th & 6th grade. Concerned w/privacy & liability issues w/ Scratch. 0 Recommended Answers 1 Reply 0 Upvotes

I am revisiting the idea of using CS First with my 5th & 6th grade classes. I am concerned that students will not ask parents for guidance or will use personally identifying information when creating their Scratch accounts. What suggestions do you have?

Hi Audra,

Thank you for reaching out to the CS First Help Community. Students will not need to create Scratch accounts. When they create a CS First account by entering your class code they will automatically receive a Scratch account with the same login credentials. They do have the ability to edit their Scratch profiles, however, so as the teacher, you should make sure to remind them not to add any personally identifying information like name or email address in their Scratch profiles or projects.
