Share photos and labels with Google to improve machine learning technology

To participate in the image capture task, you agree to share your images and labels with Google for use in product improvement. This means Google will use your tagged images in research and development of its image-related technology, such as image recognition and organization by keywords.

Like many photo-sharing services, Crowdsource removes location information stored in image metadata before uploading them to its servers. Your images are then stored along with your account name and the region the image was uploaded in (taken from the IP address). Sorting images by region helps Google to ensure that the image database represents a truly global population and that the technology built from it will work for users worldwide.

In addition to sharing images with Google, you can choose to open-source images and share them with developers, researchers, and other users worldwide.

Also, because images may be shown to Crowdsource users or other Google users helping with research and development, it’s important to avoid personal or sensitive material in your images.

In certain cases, your photo submissions will be deleted by Google because they contain restricted imagery. Your photos will be deleted if they contain any of the following:

Sensitive or personal information: Imagery containing information that reveals identity (e.g., credit card number, social security, ID card).

Children: Imagery of anyone who looks under the age of 18.

Offensive or sexual content: Hateful, defamatory, and offensive imagery and imagery depicting nudity, pornography, or sexual acts.

Copyrighted content: Photos containing imagery that you do not own (i.e. copyrighted photos from publications, movies, websites, etc.).

For more information on how Google uses information, see Google’s Terms of Service and Privacy Policy.
