When you upload your first image, Crowdsource asks whether you would like to open-source your images and labels. This means that your images and labels are made publicly available for anyone to download and use. You can change this setting for new images under Crowdsource settings.
All open-sourced images are credited to you using your Google Account name at the time you upload the image. Note that you can’t change the photo credit after an image has been uploaded. See Delete images for information on removing photos
Important: By agreeing to open source your images and labels, you hereby grant to Google and to recipients of copyrightable material distributed by Google a perpetual, worldwide, non-exclusive, no-charge, royalty-free, irrevocable copyright license to reproduce, prepare derivative works of, publicly display, publicly perform, sublicense, and distribute your images. You represent that you are legally entitled to grant this license.
If moral rights apply to your images, to the maximum extent permitted by law, you waive and agree not to assert such moral rights against Google or Google’s successors in interest, or any of Google’s licensees, either direct or indirect.
You may delete images you’ve open-sourced from Google’s open-source database (see Delete images for instructions). However, it’s important to understand that Google is not able to find or delete any copies of those images that other users may have created while the images were open-sourced, nor is Google able to revoke an open-source license to those images once they’ve been distributed.
So far, crowdsourced images have been open-sourced at the following places:
-
A subset of open-source images has been posted on a Google Cloud bucket as part of the Inclusive Images competition. You can view it here.
-
A larger set (about 478K++ images) have been posted on Google Cloud as part of Open Images Extended dataset. You can read more about it and access the download link at this website.
-
About 420K images are available for public viewing at crowdsource.google.com/images.
