If you have both the free and Premium editions of Cloud Identity, you can change a user’s license from one edition to the other.
Change a free license to Premium
You can’t remove a user’s free Cloud Identity license. If a user or group of users needs access to the Premium features, just assign them a Premium license by following the steps in Assign, remove, and reassign licenses. This replaces the free license with a Premium one.
Change a Premium license to free
You don’t need to assign users a license to the free edition of Cloud Identity. If a user or group of users who have Premium licenses only need access to the core free features, remove their Premium license by following the steps in Assign, remove, and reassign licenses. This removes their Premium license, and they get a free license automatically.
You can’t remove a user’s Premium license if you have automatic licensing for Cloud Identity Premium turned on for that user’s organizational unit or for your organization as a whole:
- To turn off Cloud Identity Premium automatic licensing for your entire organization, follow the steps to automatically assign a license to everyone from the Billing page. Just turn automatic licensing off instead of on.
- To turn off Cloud Identity Premium automatic licensing for an organizational unit, see Set automatic licensing for organizational units.
