Canada Account Migration FAQ

What is changing for my billing account?

Your GCP service is being transitioned to a new local entity incorporated in Canada. Once the transition is complete, your invoices will be issued by Google Cloud Canada Corp. instead of Google LLC. Your account will continue to work as usual. No action is required from you.

Why is this transition happening?

Google Cloud Platform is launching Google Cloud Canada Corp., a local entity incorporated in Canada, to enable access to the new Montréal region. The Montréal region gives you more control over where you host applications and store data. As a result of our business changes, all billing accounts with a Canadian billing address need to be billed by the Canadian local entity, hence the change to your invoice.

Will there be a pricing change?

There will be no pricing change due to this transition. The current pricing can be viewed here for USD and here for CAD. After this transition, you will be charged Canadian indirect tax (e.g., GST/PST) on your invoice. Refer to the subsequent question on tax implications for additional details.

Will there be a currency change on my billing account?

No. Your current billing account will continue to work as is. If you pay in USD currently, you will continue to pay in USD and if you currently pay in CAD, you will continue to pay in CAD.

What are the tax implications of this transition?

After this transition, you will be charged Canadian indirect tax (e.g., GST/PST) on your invoice. Charging this tax is a requirement of the Canadian government.

  • If you are a business customer, this may not impact your cost if you can claim indirect tax as an input credit.
  • If you are an individual customer, you will see an increase in cost due to these taxes.

What action do I need to take?

This change does not require any action from you. All your GCP resources will continue to run as expected.

Can I create a new billing account to pay in US dollars (USD)?

No. Going forward, customers with a Canadian billing address can only create billing accounts paying in CAD.

Can I still use services in any region?

Yes. All GCP regions will continue to be available to you.
