Create, modify, or close your billing account

Use the Cloud Platform Console to create billing accounts and configure your project billing settings. The following topics explain how to set up your billing account and verify your email address.

Note: To manage billing accounts and to add projects to them, you must be a billing administrator. (By default, account owners are billing administrators.) For more information about billing administrators, see Manage billing administrators.

For information about Google API pricing, refer to the documentation for the API you're using. For information about Google Cloud Platform pricing and the Google Cloud Platform free trial, see Pricing.

Create a new billing account

To create a new billing account:

  1. Go to the Cloud Platform Console and sign in or, if you don't already have an account, sign up.
  2. Open the console left side menu and select Billing  Billing
  3. Click the New billing account button. (Note that if this is not your first billing account, first you need to open the billing account list by clicking the name of your existing billing account near the top of the page, and then clicking Manage billing accounts.)
  4. Enter the name of the billing account and enter your billing information. The options you see depend on the country of your billing address. Note that for United States accounts, you cannot change tax status after the account is created.
  5. Click Submit and enable billing.

By default, the person who creates the billing account is a billing administrator for the account.

For information about verifying bank accounts and adding backup methods of payment, see Add, remove, or update a payment method.

Note: If you haven’t already verified your email address, you might need to do so before you can begin using the new billing account. For information about verifying your email address, see the following topic Verify your email address.

Verify your email address

To ensure you receive billing related notifications, we might ask you to verify your email address.

To verify your email address, look for a verification email in the Inbox for the email address you used as your billing account Primary contact, and then click the verification link in the email to activate your billing account.

If you haven't received the verification email, here's how to request a new verification link:

  1. Go to the Cloud Platform Console.
  2. Open the console left side menu and select Billing  Billing
  3. If you have more than one billing account, select the billing account name.
  4. On the left, click Profile.
  5. Under Billing contacts, find the email address you want to verify and click Resend verification email. Note that if the email address has already been verified, this link is not available.

Until an email address is verified, you'll see the error "Your primary billing contact isn't receiving critical notifications" in Billing.

Change the billing address

To change the billing address, do the following. (Note that you must be a billing administrator to make the changes described here.)

  1. Go to the Cloud Platform Console.
  2. Open the console left side menu and select Billing  Billing
  3. If you have more than one billing account, select the billing account name.
  4. On the left, click Payment settings.
  5. Next to Available payment methods, click Edit.
  6. Under Billing Address click the current address, and then scroll down and click Add a new address.
  7. Enter the new billing address information and click Save.
Close a billing account

To close a billing account you must be a billing administrator on the account. Billing accounts cannot be deleted.

Note: Before you close an active billing account, you must move its associated projects to another billing account or disable billing for its projects.

To close an account:

  1. Go to the Cloud Platform Console.
  2. Open the console left side menu and select Billing  Billing
  3. If you have more than one billing account, select the billing account name.
  4. Click Close billing account.

Note: After you close your billing account, we will bill you for the usage you accrued prior to cancelling your service. This bill will be the last bill you receive, unless you reactivate service.
