Set up a TV with Google Cast

Set up essentials

  • A display device with Google Cast built in
  • Access to an available power outlet or an available (non-service) USB port on your HDMI-enabled display.
  • Access to a secure wireless network (make sure that you have the wireless network password to hand).
  • A compatible Android or iOS device or tablet
  • Availability and performance of certain features, services and applications are device and network-dependent and may not be available in all areas; subscription(s) may be required, and additional terms, conditions and/or charges may apply.

Set up your TV with Google Cast from:

Android phone or tablet (Android 4.1 and higher)
  1. Install the Google Cast app by navigating to chromecast.com/setup on your Google Cast supported Android device.
    Or click to download the Google Cast app for Android.
  2. Tap ACCEPT to agree to the Terms of Service and Privacy Policy.
  3. Touch DEVICES and choose the TV with Google Cast you want to set up. Touch Set Up.
  4. Touch Set Up.
  5. Make sure that the code on your device matches the code on your TV. Touch I See the Code.
  6. Optional: Change the name of your TV with Google Cast to something distinct by deleting the current name and typing in a new name.

    Note: Guest mode and Send Google Cast device usage data and crash reports to Google are enabled by default. If you don't want to enable them, touch the ticks next to their corresponding prompts. Touch Set Name. 
  7. Choose the Wi-Fi network to which you want to connect your TV with Google Cast. Enter password. Touch Set Network.
  8. If your TV with Google Cast needs an update, it will automatically update at this time and will let you know when the update is complete. 
  9. After the update is compete, you are ready to cast. Touch Browse Your Cast Apps! Here's how to start casting apps to your TV.
iOS phone or tablet (iOS 7.0 and higher)
  1. Highly recommended: Turn on Bluetooth to help improve the set up process.
  2. Install the Google Cast app by navigating to chromecast.com/setup on your Chromecast supported iOS device.

  3. Tap ACCEPT to agree to the Terms of Service and Privacy Policy.
  4. If Bluetooth is ON, touch DEVICES and choose the Chromecast that you want to set up. Touch Set Up. Touch Next. Skip to Step 9. 
  5. If Bluetooth is OFF, touch DEVICES. Touch ADD NEW DEVICE. You will be prompted to turn Bluetooth on. Touch Settings and turn on Bluetooth. Then return to the Google Cast app. Choose the device that you want to set up. Touch Set Up. Touch Next. Skip to step 9.
  6. If you don't want to turn Bluetooth on, go to the DEVICES tab and touch Add New Device. Touch OK. 
  7. Choose the device that you want to set up. 
    • Touch your iPhone’s Home button > Go to your iOS Settings > Wi-Fi
    • Connect to the Wi-Fi network that matches your Chromecast device. Look for something like ChromecastXXXX.
    • Navigate back to the Google Cast app. Your device should now be detected. Touch Next.
  8. The code on your phone should match the code on your TV. Touch I See the Code.
  9. Select your region. Touch Next.
  10. Optional: Change the name of your Chromecast to something distinct by deleting the current name and typing in a new name. Note: Guest mode is enabled by default. If you don't want to enable guest mode, touch the tick. Touch Set Name.
  11. Choose the Wi-Fi network that you want to connect to your Chromecast. Enter password. Touch Set Up.
  12. If your Chromecast needs an update, it will automatically update at this time and will let you know when the update is complete. Here’s more information on updates to your Chromecast in case the update is taking longer than expected.
  13. After the update is complete, you are ready to cast. Touch Browse Your Cast Apps! Here's how to start casting apps to your TV.
