Set up a TV with Chromecast built-in

Setup essentials

  • A display device with Chromecast built-in
  • Access to an available power outlet or an available (non-service) USB port on ayour HDMI-enabled display
  • Access to a secure wireless network (make sure you have the wireless network password handy)
  • A compatible Android or iOS device or tablet
  • Note: Availability and performance of certain features, services and applications are device- and network-dependent and may not be available in all areas; subscription(s) may be required, and additional terms, conditions and/or charges may apply.

Set up your TV with Chromecast built-in from:

Android phone or tablet (Android 4.1 and higher)
  1. Make sure  your phone or tablet is connected to the same Wi-Fi network you will use with your Chromecast built-in TV or display.
  2. Install the Google Home app by navigating to http://chromecast.com/setup on your Chromecast supported Android device.

    Note: Connect your mobile device/tablet to the same network that you intend to use to set up your device with Chromecast built-in.

  3. Tap ACCEPT to agree to the Terms of Service and Privacy Policy.
  4. In the top right corner of the screen, tap Devices .
  5. To allow Google Home app to access this device’s location, tap Allow.
  6. Choose the device with Chromecast built-in you want to set up. Tap SET UP > CONTINUE 
  7. Your phone or tablet will  now establish a connection to your Chromecast built-in device.
    1. If a connection can’t be established, move closer to the Chromecast built-in device and tap Try AgainIf there is trouble reading info from device with Chromecast built-in, tap Try Again.  
  8. When Google Home app is successfully connected to the Chromecast built-in device, tap CONTINUE.
  9. The code on your phone should match the code on your TV. Tap I See the Code.
  10. Change the name of your Chromecast built-in device to something distinct by deleting the default name and typing in a new name. Note: Guest mode and Send Chromecast usage data and crash reports to Google are enabled by default. If you don't want to enable them, tap the check marks next to their corresponding prompts. Tap Continue. 
  11. Choose the Wi-Fi network you want to connect your Chromecast built-in device to. To automatically fetch the password for this network on this device, tap OK. The password will populate in the password field. Note: Android Lollipop and above is required to auto fetch the password. Tap Continue. ​
    1. You can also manually enter your password. Tap Continue.​  
  12. Chromecast will now attempt to connect to the provided Wi-Fi network. 
    1. If it fails, tap Try again.  
  13. If your Chromecast built-in device needs an update, it will automatically begin updating and will let you know when completed. Here’s more information on updates to your Chromecast  in case the update takes longer than expected.
  14. When the Chromecast built-in device has connected to your Wi-Fi, tap Continue.   

  15. If you're not signed into a Google account, tap SIGN IN to personalize your features for a better Chromecast built-in experience. Then tap Allow Email Notifications for tips & tricks, offers, and more sent straight to your email. Tap CONTINUE.
  16. If you're already signed into a Google account, tap Allow Email Notifications for tips & tricks, offers, and more sent straight to your email. Tap CONTINUE.
  17. You are now ready to cast. Tap Learn to Cast to watch a tutorial on how to cast. Tap Skip to begin casting. 
iOS phone or tablet (iOS 8.0 and higher)
  1. Make sure your phone or tablet is connected to the same Wi-Fi network you will use with your Chromecast built-in TV or display.
  2. Install the Google Home app by navigating to http://chromecast.com/setup on your Chromecast supported iOS device.

    Or click to download the Google Home app for iOS.
  3. Tap ACCEPT to agree to the Terms of Service and Privacy Policy.
  4. Google Home app will ask you to turn on Bluetooth. Tap Turn on Bluetooth.
    1. ​Highly recommended: Turn on Bluetooth to help improve the setup process. You can also swipe up from the bottom and turn on Bluetooth or tap SETTINGS to turn on Bluetooth, then return to the Google Home app.
  5. If you don't want to use Bluetooth for set up, 
    1. Tap your iPhone’s Home button > Go to your iOS Settings > Wi-Fi
    2. Connect to the Wi-Fi network that matches your Chromecast built-in device. Look for something like ChromecastXXXX.
    3. Navigate back to the Google Home app. Your device should now be detected. Tap CONTINUE. 
  6. In the top right corner of the screen, tap Devices .
  7. Choose the Chromecast built-in device you want to set up. Tap SET UP > CONTINUE. 
  8. Your phone or tablet will now establish a connection with your Chromecast built-in device.
    1. If a connection can’t be established, move closer to the Chromecast built-in device and tap Try Again. If there is trouble reading info from the device with Chromecast built-in, tap Try Again.  
  9. When the Google Home app is successfully connected to the Chromecast built-in device, tap Continue.

  11. Select your region. Tap Continue.
  12. Optional: Change the name of your Chromecast built-in device to something distinct by deleting the defualt name and typing in a new name. Note: Guest mode is enabled by default. If you don't want to enable guest mode, tap the check mark. Tap Continue.
  13. Tap Select a Wi-Fi network. Choose the Wi-Fi network you want to connect your Chromecast built-in device to. Tap Continue.
  14. Manually enter your password. Tap Done > Continue. 
  15. Chromecast will now attempt to connect to the provided Wi-Fi network. 
    1. If it fails, tap Try again.  
  16. If your Chromecast built-in device needs an update, it will automatically begin updating and let you know when completed. Here’s more information on updates to your Chromecast in case the update takes longer than expected.
  17. When the Chromecast built-in device has connected to your Wi-Fi, tap Continue.

  19. If you're already signed into a Google account, tap Allow Email Notifications for tips & tricks, offers, and more sent straight to your email. Tap CONTINUE.
  20. You are now ready to cast. Tap Learn to Cast to go through an interactive tutorial on how to cast. Tap Skip if you don’t want to go through the tutorial.
