Cast your Android Audio from the Google Home app

The Cast team is aware of an issue with the Android Cast Screen / Audio feature where the 'Disconnect' button within the Google Home app remains after successfully disconnecting the mirroring session. You're unable to reconnect a Chromecast or Chromcast Audio using the Cast Screen / Audio feature.
We're working on a fix. In the meantime, the following may fix the issue:
  1. Turn off your phone or tablet's Wi-Fi and turn it back on.
  2. If that doesn't work, reboot your phone or tablet.
Cast all of your favorite music, playlists, podcasts, and more from your Android phone or tablet to your speakers. Enjoy audio exactly as you hear it on your mobile device—but using your high quality speakers to hear it all around the room or all around the house.

Step 1. Get started

  • Casting your Android audio is available on devices running Android 5.0 or higher. Please note: Some devices have been optimized for audio casting so your experience may vary.
  • Casting your Android audio is not supported on iOS or Windows devices.
  • Make sure you're not running "Power Saving Mode" on your Android device. This can limit the processing power of your device which could affect the performance of the Cast Audio feature.
  • Important: The "Microphone" permission in the Google Play Services app needs to be turned on to successfully use the 'Cast Screen/Audio' feature with Chromecast Audio. If you don't have this permission turned on, the Cast Audio session will immediately disconnect after trying to connect.
    • To turn on microphone permissions:
      1. On your Android device, tap Settings  .
      2. Scroll down and tap Apps and then Google Play Services and then Permissions.
      3. Look for "Microphone" and slide the slider On  .

Step 2. Cast your audio from your Android device

  1. Connect your Android device to the same Wi-Fi network as your Chromecast Audio or speaker with Chromecast built-in.
  2. Open the Google Home app Google Home app.
  3. At the top of the home screen, tap Play, then tap the Play iconPlay.
  4. Select your Chromecast Audio or Chromecast built-in speaker.

Step 3. Adjust the volume when casting your Android audio

  1. Open the Google Home app Google Home app.
  2. Tap the device that's currently playing media.
  3. Move the slider to increase or decrease the volume.

Step 4. Stop casting your audio from your Android device

From your notification drawer

  1. Pull down the notification drop down drawer on your Android device.
  2. Tap Disconnect on the notification bar.
